[Help Plz] Need Help Setting Up PServer

loginserver, loginagent and zoneagent are working properly.

however mainserver cant seem to work properly (prob bcoz 7770,8880 & 9990 arent either).

problem is, i cant seem to be able to find a solution in the forum for the 7770,8880 n 9990 problem.

the problem is not that the h3db00.... and so on cant connect. after i click the second "click" button nth happens. i cant click the "start" button, neither does the h3db00 cant connect.

furthermore, i cant verify odbc entries too. after putting the password and clicking next, an error appears (errorpic.jpg).

btw, i used "MyServer205Modded.zip" server files, MS SQL Server 2005 Express+Mgt Studio Express and BDE (

, with WinXP SP2. Server files are in D:\A3server, corresponding folders are already placed in c drive. DBs have been restored and ips & a/c & pass hv been changed in the respective files. Basically ive tried following exactly as the guide says. But...

Would appreciate help in this area, thx alot in advance.

ps. ive been trying to set up a3 server for ~1 yr now ....ive done ran ps successfully but cant understand why i cant do a3 ps. just fyi.

i think its a problem with ur SQL server
does it run fine ?
is ur 'sa' passwd correctly entered everywhere ?

i checked. all a/c 'sa' and pass 'pass' hv been changed in the tbh.ini files and others which had 'mortyf' as the pass.

Check you're ODBC entries again. Install BDE (which yo u say you already did.)

Check if your 7770 has Login202 and 8880 and 9990 has NEWASD in the tdb.ini files.

also check if ur SQL server is actually running whn u try to start the server...
the last line of ur error screen says something abt it...

as far i know, a3 only runs in MSSQL 2000 not on MSSQL2005 EXPRESS edition as u have said to have used...so use MSSQL2000 not 2005 express edition, then you can make the server run for sure

The DB's can be made to work with MSSQL 2005 Express too but the SP3 patch is a compulsary which did not come out for the 2005 Express version. That might be the place where he's coming across these problems.

everything can be made to work with another, but the way i see it it seems hes following sql 2000 guides & files on sql2005express, thts whr the errors popping up.

yes i am using sql 2005 sp2 bcoz there doesnt seem to be a download for sql 2000. and i did manage to tweak ran online instruction which were also for 2000 on 2005, so logically speaking this shdnt be any prob.

@ekoar : start server as in Start > Program Files > MS SQL Server 2005 > Config Mgr > SQL Server Svcs > SQL Server (servername) [shown in server.jpeg]? shd hv started if not i wldnt hv been able to restore the dbs.

@insane : the weird thing is borland's website doesnt seem to host the BDE files anymore. the one i used is specified above, not originally from borland's website. will it still work properly? also, may i clarify that the part of gg into SysAdmin tools > odbc is already to check the entries? or do u mean the reg file i used (202.txt, renamed to upload as attachment from 202.reg)? coz i checked n checked, but nth seems wrong... (to my knowledge at least)

also, pics of tdb.ini files attached for checking.

note : 192.168.1.14 is router-assigned ip for this pc.
note2 : server name = SQLEXPRESS, id = sa, pass = pass.
note3 : just rem there were 2 steps i wasnt clear abt. the one creating new login and the one about setting db_owner to a3itemevent. i assumed the guide is referring to new logins for the server (which i created). h/w i hv absolutely no idea abt the dbowner thing.

Are you sure for the name of your SQLServer ???

Because me, i have my Windows Session UserName at the end, separated by a "\" character.
Remember : If you must write the "\" character into your ODBC Regfile, you must escape the "\" character by a second "\" character as it:

Windows Session UserName\\SQLEXPRESS

Ok, if you want make this, first launch your SQL Manager and login It as Authentification Windows (or sa).

This is ok? Yes, ok, right, in second step, you must click on "a3serial" user and choose "Properties".
Check if "Authentification SQL Server" is checked.
Next, the password must be: dkdlxpawprhdnpc
Check the two first checkbox and uncheck the last third checkbox -if it checked-.
In Default database, choose "A3ItemEvent".
Language, let the default language.

Hum, i have an other version of SQLServer than english, but, if you have "User Mapping" you must click on it.

Then, you are now in "User Mapping" section of "a3serial" user.
You must check here "A3ItemEvent" and "db_owner".

Once made, click "OK" and retry your ODBC/SQL Connection via A3server.

SILICON_ARMOR\\SQLEXPRESS

as far as i noe SQL2005 have 2 parts (same for SQL2k)

1. the database side...(default setup will include this)
2. the manager parts, used to see the database...(u have to choose custom install to have this feature)

try check it out if im mistaken.....

n 1 more thing (as far as my knowledges) i don think SQL2005 will support winXP, it needs win2k server edition or win2003 server...

so when u install SQL 2005, only the 2nd part is being installed due to ur OS, it doesnt install any database part...(green arrow next to ur clock at the bottom right side that shows ur sql service running or not)

my advised, pls use SQL2k express edition on winXP, so u can install both of the SQL2k components for ur winXP (SQL2k Professional Edition cant be install in winXP cos it needs the database parts, it will only setup the manager for winXP only, not the database parts..n as u can see that ur SQL service isnt running...)

correct me if im wrong...

actually i agreed with ekoar, i don think ur sql service is running... (green arrow icon at the bottom, next to ur clock..)

edit : @atanacius : thx for the tip on the name. now all seems to be working except two - disconnected for zoneagent (blue window named dkwn) and gameinit fail for zoneserver (maroon coloured window with the cursor). my current status is in runserver.jpg.

really appreciate all the help given so far. this is the furthest i hv reached in setting up this a3 ps. THX A LOT.

Ok, you have "connected" in blue window (ZoneAgent) only once the 3 last servers has been run.

The error for your ZoneServer is a "GameInit fail!", and if you have a row which specify:

"EventItemConnector::ConnectDB ERROR", then i have the solution:


Just check the a3serial is on "db_owner" mode (checkbox must be checked) and the Database Default is "A3ItemEvent.

Once this made, the error will be fixed

Try it and re-ask me if you're stuck.

the zoneagent connects to 3 servers :
1).mainserver
2).zoneserver
3).battleserver

u wont get connected in the zoneagent until u get a GATE OK msg in the respective server window

Delete the existing user and then make one again.

The DB's come by a default a3 serial ID and you cant over write it.

i get what u mean, and tried it, but still cannot. h/w i figured out a way and all the server is running - the zoneserver window shows success.

method for ms sql server 2005 express + mgt studio:
1. if a3serial login exists, delete the login.
2. create new login for a3serial with the correct password.
2a. uncheck user must change password
2b. change default db to a3itemevent.
2c. click ok
3. goto propeties of a3itemevent db
3a. goto files
3b. select or type in a3serial as owner.
3c. click ok

done.

hopefully once i get my own ps up n running fully i will try n do an even more indepth guide to help n00bs. if i hv time maybe even see if can convert to autorun setup.

ANYWAY, now all my server is running, got another problem. I can login and create a character. but after i select character, the client just stops at the loading screen. music still plays but it doesnt go into town like for a new character.

Restart your Zone Server. Sometimes this problem persists. Give a gap when starting the servers and wiat till the M/L lines on Zone are in teh 100's,
