This topic is the same. Thank you for wording it as a question, all be it one that answers it's self.

The screen shots tell you that you are trying to reinstall SQL Server without un-installing the last copy you installed.

Okay... let me also explain that SQL Server is a key component of many accountancy and database software. So it's entirely possible that you didn't know it was already installed on your system as part of something else.

But I still find it difficult to see how this is not really really clear to anyone from the plainly written dialogues produced by the set up program. Unless you don't natively speak English, or any other language that SQL Server is available in.

If you don't understand the English in the messages... it's hard to see how people on this English forum can explain it better.

I feel there should be more to this question than "Help! What do these messages say." because their meaning is self-explanatory. They say what they say. They mean what they say, and there really isn't a better way to write it on a forum than it is written in your illustration.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but I really feel you are both getting answers to a question you didn't mean to ask. I'd love to know what you did mean, so we could help you more. lol

Aye... In XP it's Control Panel -> Add and Remove Programs. (looks like XP from the Screenies) 2K Pro/Server and 2003 server are the same. Vista, 2007 Server and W7 use Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

You are looking for "Microsoft SQL Server 2005" and probably anything else "Microsoft SQL Server *"

But if you have some other program that is using SQL Server, I would try skipping ahead to installing the Server Management Studio Express and try to create a new instance on it... otherwise:-
A) Previously installed programs which use MS SQL will stop working... even after it's reinstalled.
B) It may not uninstall until all dependant programs have also been uninstalled.

More importantly, I would not try to install MS SQL on a system which is already using it, and would not try to install a PT server on any system which is not dedicated to running a PT server. YMMV.

For preference I would use either a Virtual Machine (if you can afford the RAM, See {Workstation is sufficient to start with, and if you pass the trial period VMWare Player will still work once the VM is set up} or {always FOSS and in may ways better than VMWare for workstation use}) or a dual boot if you do not have access to a second system (Physical or Virtual) capable of running the server.
