[Help] Vista problem(i think)

alright everything goes fine until i get to the links, the dataservers dont start up and give me the following error:

"GSDBSet ODBC Connect Fail"

i double clicked the odbc thing and said yes and ok, and it still isnt working, i am running on vista, is that the problem? if so, how do i fix it. >.<

nope i had that problem myself on xp u gotta go into the odbc tools i dunno where it is or what its like on vista tho and u gotta set all the odbc things to point to your sql servers name or another way to fix is to reinstall sql and in installation click default instance (u gotta tick show advanced or summat like that) then the odbc will be able to connect with (local) either way works but the sql one is better bcz if u havent installed it that was u cant use any item editor it will always say sql server doesnt exist or access denied and that reli sux!

ok i will try installing sql on a spare comp and go through it ...

1. run the installer and accept the user agreement
2.let it install then click next and wait till it scans
3.when the box appears click next and after check click next
4. after it installs more the box askin for your name and company comes up, fill that in and then uncheck the hide config settings then click next
5. choose what u want installing then click next again
6. check default instance then next

i cant go through the rest because i have it already install and it takes alot of time to uninstall it all fully then reinstall it and evrything

after 6 jus keep going and use your head when it looks to advanced jus click nect but if u see u need to change sumthing do it

tell me how it goes

btw if u didnt kno ya gotta allow everything in configuration manager tcpip and pipes

man its no good doing the odbc one i said because your server will work fine but when you need to giv yourself items and so on u cant because no editor work so u gotta reinstall sql

ive re installed it twice already with the default instance though >.<

if it still doesnt work then:

1. open up sql management studio and when the login box appears an copy the servername

2. go to start/controlpanel/ administrative tools/ Data sources/odbc

3. when u loaded the odbc thing go to system dns

4. click on the top item in the list and click configure

5. on the 1st page paste your server name where it says server:

6. click next 4 times then ok

7. do this on all of the items in the list exept Localserver

on local server do the same thing but on the second page set it to windows authentication if it already isnt


btw u did set the sql to mixed mode right? if not that is your problem
