Yes. you can use another linux system. the server files working on linux systems, only. on the "Red Hat" systems. =]

You can use debian based linux distros like ubuntu as well but you must use the "alien" command to convert the rpm files to deb files so you can install them. I have no ideas about other linux distro types.

Windows-only options do not exist so you have to use do have to use some form of linux.
