Ok im running Windows XP Pro (Hoping to change to Windows Server 2000 if it will really make a difference) all eye candy etc turned off (looks like win 98 now), got 1.5GB DDR400 pc3200 Geil RAM with heat spreaders, AMD Athlon 64bit 3000+ (hoping to OC soon) and enough storage to store DB entries for the next millenium hehe. Connection (on LAN, other 3 connections on network hardly ever used) is currently 750k cable broadband with upload speed of 128k. Soon upgrading to 1.5mb wtih upload speed of 256k. (the 3mb option from my ISP has same upload as 1.5) Just wondering how many players could this handle. Thanks

. . . with upload speed of 128k . . .

Um... wow...

Lets see... thats the only thing thats crippling your server. You should be able to handle about... 20 people? lol

BTW, I don't recommend over-clocking... seeing as how your connection is the only problem, you will see no improvement.

Upload speed of 128k support only 20 ppl when each person uses up .25-.3k per person? :eh:

You are such a noob...

128K means 128 kilobits per second... A kilobyte is 8 kilobits. Therefore, he has an upload speed of 16 kilobytes per second. And I HIGHLY doubt that each person uses 0.25 kilobytes per second... but even if they did, thats still only 64 people.

I hope you enjoyed my computer science lesson, and plz... know your basic technology rules before posting.

K by itself means Kilo. Without a B or b after it, one cannot tell which one the original poster was refferring to. But seeing as how he/she/it is talking about a cable connection, one would assume logically that they are referring to KBYTES. Who the hell would get a 1.5MByte download with only a 128Kbit upload?

Wow... you truly are misinformed.

Cable connections are 1.5 megabits per second... I myself have a 3.0Mbps cable connection with a 384Kbps upload. Cable is not known for its incredible upload speed... Go to a few cable internet provider websites and maybe you'll decide to do some "book-learnin" before you post the next time instead of making yourself look like an idiot...

Must be cheap cable then. I have plenty of friends who have downloads around 1.5MB per second., Uploads much higher then 128KBps too. Once OOL finally services my block, I'll be close to that range too. Definetly over 1MBps downloads.

I'm surprised you dont have speeds that high either, since all of them who have the high cable speeds are in Canada as well.

You are such a noob... ALL INTERNET CONNECTIONS ARE MEASURED IN BITS...

1.5 megabits per second would be about 200KB/s in actual speed... I always get around 400KB/s because my connection is 3.0 megabits per second. If you're getting 1.5MB/s, then you probably have a freaking 10mbps (DS2/T2) connection which, guess what, isn't exactly affordable by the average household.

Now, lets look at a few examples just incase you're not following me...

Now, here it says the connection is 3.0 megabits per second downstream and 384 kilobits per second.

Once again, the unit used is BITS and not BYTES.

Well what do you know? Again, they use BITS to describe their product and guess what? Its 3.0 megabits per second!! Who would've thought that DSL would use such "slow" speeds?

Hm... I guess you didn't take my advice, did you? And once again, you got your ass handed to you... ggthnx
