Set a password on startup on the computer, right before the windows logo comes up?
I've seen my friend do it but I really dont know how to >.<

Before startup means it happens before the OS loads = it has nothing to do with the OS and as such is a BIOS setting. Go into your BIOS and there MAY be an option to require a password on boot. NOT recommended incase something goes wrong or you forget your password, your only option will be to buy an entire new motherboard.

Me forgetting my password is very unlikely :p
Well thanks, uhm just another question.
If I got this password requiring could people access my files without the password then?

i thought changing/ removing and putting back the battery resets the Bios? anyway, no point having passwords before boot. whats the difference anyway?

No, that can completely delete the BIOS. If that happens you can either spend ALOT to have it replaced or you have to buy another motherboard.

It all depends, some motherboards cannot last 5 minutes without the battery, i've seen others work for a month. Playing with the BIOS and CMOS is always a gamble.

No, they will not be able to do anything on your Pc without that password then, irregardless of which hard drive is in there. It just won't boot windows.

However if you just wanted to keep people out, just put a password on your windows account. ALOT safer.

I see but is the windows password enough to keep people out?
Because I'm quite afraid of those anti-privacy guys would come and raid my computer :sneaky2:

Forget about that. If they DO raid your house (EXTREMELY unlikely) NOTHING will protect your data from them seeing it. Unless you want to keep earth magnets to wipe across your hard drives just incase. Apart form that, they will get to your data no matter what.

If you put a password on your windows account or even your BIOS, all they have to do is remove your hrd drives and use them on a different PC. As for encrypting your files... they have super computers which can brute-force it to get the password within 24 hours irregardless of how long of complex your password is.

lol very well thanks for the answers guys, this thead can be locked now =p

Each motherboard has it's own stored passwords just in case of morons who forgot those. You just need to find on some hacker site the correct password for your motherboard. No need to buy new motherboard.

how do you find your password pasted on some site when you don't even know your pass and when your pass is supposed to be private?

Read my text again. Or should I explain to first grade student? Okey...

FOr isntance he has some ASUS-xxx motherboard. He looks up the ASUS motherboard stored passwords and finds out that it has five passwords by default to enter the bios and disable the password.

He enters one of the stored passwords and disables his own password. Because when they make motherboards they already have programmed some passwords (like 5 or so) because they know that people are stupid and they prolly will forgot they own. :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:

Got it?
