TG Daily - IBM releases 4.7 GHz Power6 processor

This is amazing... they effectily just doubled the GHz processing speeds, and halved the power consumption.

The neat part.. is IBM is going to be giving AMD a hand to help even things out with Intel, they have a partnership in the manufacturing processes.. so as what some of the critics are saying.. some of this technology will probably seep into AMD's hands and give us a show of what the AMD AM3 Phenom is going to have ;)

Thought I posted this... Must not have gone though.

What I'm more interested in is the damn release of the Cell processor. Sure the PowerPC architecture is amazing (can't see why Apple switched from it to the slower Core architecture) but the Cell was made to replace it.

Now when will they start to bring out the 6ghz 65nm Cells? The 3.2ghz 90nm are more powerful then this new Power6. Though they do charge much more for the server grade Cell then the Power6 that's for sure. But in all honesty. They are selling them to Sony for just $90 to put in the PS3.

Argh... Now they need to stop price gouging and make a desktop platform. They said 4 years ago it will be out in 2007 and pushing 12 teraflops of bandwidth. Obviously it isn't pushing the 12 teraflops as they predicted but the 6ghz one will certainly give you 2-3 teraflops. Now at least keep to one end of what they said.

Us 8800GTX/Ultra SLI owners need a CPU that is bottleneck free! :icon6:

NoPeace - out

This is not an x86 architecture CPU, and NOT for PCs.

It's a RISC architecture, which means that it'll still require more instructions to achieve the same result than on a CISC architecture like the x86.

A nerd can dream can't he? =/

BTW... I'm pretty sure NoPeace and Sardaukar knew that it isn't x86 architecture lol
