So, I was thinking, since SD memory cards store their information in a solid state, why not build a piece of hardware that accepts like 20 SD memory cards at a time.
Sounds crazy?
Well, it would be alot cheaper than investing in a SSD.
What do you think?

Cheaper? Yes. More stable and reliable? No. SSD's have a very fast transfer speed, and from what i've seen SD cards have a very bad transfer rate as compared to even USB 2.0. A good idea in theory but really not practical.

You're too late. This already exists but are no so cost efficient and as said, it's performance aint so great :p And the "base unit" are pretty expensive too.
