Invisibility at hand!

Shit! This thing seems to be the Shiznit! If they make it there is going to be a detector. It doesnt make you invulnerable. If the other guy comes next to you he can feel you. I hope they will not limit it for military purposes only. I would love to have one of these.

I still don't believe it. Remember seeing is believing. If they provided us with some pictures even of their studies and developments then I may believe it but without it this is just like Jesus' Tomb. Only thing you'll find is bones.

Well I didn't bother reading the article, but one thing's for sure. The ability to hide a person from others can bring no good to us as a race. Military purposes, sure, but military purposes have always been strictly a one-sided gain with loss on the other.

It'd be cool to be able to hide from everyone else, but knowing someone is able to hide from us all is troubling to say the least.

Yeah. You are right. maybe they will develop it in the Area 51 or something and when its 100% implemented they will "release" it. I think that that is definitely going to bring some trouble to us but who knows :/

I know what you mean, it's all good and all, I know I am up for giving it a go. Just it's going cause so much trouble. People would be extra paranoid if a guy is watching them specially in the shower. O.O

It's the whole, will privacy exist anymore?

LOL LordDemonMan :P

I lolled at the harry potter tag :P
I bet evil terrorist will use it for bad things

I bet I would use it for bad things ^_^ *wink wink*
Sounds like a bucket o' fun lol

Hurray for science!

Name just one thing where ability to become invisible would be beneficial. Anyone?

My clothes were stolen after a long night... and I need to get home which happens to be several streets away. Bam invisobo! I walk home in the nude... breeze between my knees

Well...even it were untrue..becoming invisible IS possible. The only reason we see ANYTHING is because our eyes see the electromagnetic radiation that hits an object and gives it certain qualities like color, etc.

If you could make that object bend the light rays and not allow them to bounce off of the object, you won't be able to see that object.

And you can see things at night because of the moon..it is called Twilight colors. It's what dogs can see(dark blue, black, grey, other colors that we can see in nighttime light).

It is possible...you can bend light with light. Not sure what the equation is though..I can ask one of my relatives assuming he is still alive. Used to be a Physics professor...I'm sure he knows.

And yes..this would be a horrible invention. Einstein was sickened by the creation of the atomic bomb..he couldn't believe it was done..both fascinated and disgusted that he took part in birthing a weapon that can kill massive amounts of life in a single blast.

I assume, though, that perfecting the invisibility will be difficult. Although the object may not be bouncing light off of them, if you're human, you are still emitting heat. :o

Damn heat

That's the whole thing they're getting at in that article.
The current spec of their intended device only diverts a very small spectrum of light, but they also say that they think it's possible, if hard, to broaden that spectrum to eventually divert all light.

Not only does this mean that 'normal' human vision would not be able to see anything, it means that stuff using abnormal spectra like night-vision, x-ray and infra-red wouldn't work.
The only thing that could accurately pin-point an object's location would be ultra-sonic waves (and similar).

It's still gonna be very tough applying this to various objects though, as the device would have to be calibrated differently to match the shape of the object it's on. Which makes me think it will probably be very hard to apply on humans, because humans tend to move their limbs in all kinds of directions, and in order for this device to work properly, it would have to positioned outside of the range of a man's limbs, to prevent them from suddenly appearing out of nowhere (hehe). Don't see that being easy.

I'm sure it's gonna be abused by the U.S. firsthand, to do all kinds of illegal spying/kidnapping stuff etc, like they do already, except then it will be perfectly untraceable.
