Hey,

Well the PlayStation 3 has been out for 10 months now and it still costs as much as the mortgage for your house. I myself love the PS3 but I think it's too expensive for all it's worth and it's really chunky. Many people have a different opinion on the PS3, some really hate it, others love it. What Im asking you is; do you think the PS3 is worth its weight in gold?

Advantages

- Cheapest Blu-Ray player available
- Great selection of games
- Fantastic graphics
- User friendly

Disadvantages

- Very expensive
- It's a big chunky console
- Most of its games are available on other platforms (e.g Wii, XBOX 360 etc)
- Not much stock available

So what do you think?

Shizzle,
Laz-low

It's not very expensive or big if you look at what's inside. How big is a PC? How expensive is a PC that has that kind of hardware?

Ignoring the crappy English...

The PS3's graphics are nearly identical, if i hook both up on a TV and switch between them, then you couldn't tell which is which.

Yes the 360 has a better videochip, but the differences in graphics are really small, and is mostly a matter of preference. Actually that's not true, it's mostly about how well the developers programmed it, i seen comparison tests where each console had it's wins and losses.

Like i have said, the choice is between the games, online gaming, controller and the media options.

My oppinion is that it 100% worth buying.

-It's not that big for what's inside (like gohan said) and I think the size isn't of big importante
-Stock? You can easily find a ps3 in your city if you look carefully, or order from the internet
-Most of the games are available on other platforms true, but other platform games are available on ps3 also :) (if you know what I mean).
-It's just a lil bit expensiver then xbox360, but if you got the cash, it's definetly worth it. PS3 is in top (together with xbox360) so depends on your likeings, xbox360 you can hack it and play online games at a better experience. (you'll be able to hack ps3 also in 2008 I think).

Sorry if I said any fanboy crap but I wrote everything in a hurry :)

I don't think the PS3 copying will be popular anytime soon, unless you will be able to play games from the HDD, but to play it from a Blu-Ray would be to expensive.

Well couldn't they make a chip so that PS3 reads normal DVD's as original BluRay's?
Most of the PS3 games have around 4gb - 8gb (doable with a dual layer dvd).

Also I see all the demo's work fine on installing them on the hdd, why not full games also?

yes it is , even at launch time when it was 600 usd it was still worth it
even more as the stand alone blue ray players at the ps3 launch date were still 800 usd+

and now whit the price cut to 400 usd its definitely worth it

That could be done easily but most are not 4-8gb. They are actually higher. Why? No compressions.

BluRay is great for that fact. You can have the stuff there without compressing it. That is why in some cases the PS3 loads faster then the x360, even with a much slower drive.

And for audio quality, the PS3 leads because of it.

As for the PS3 being worth it. Well... It depends on if you have an HDTV and a good sound system. If you do then it's worth every penny with out a freaking doubt.

If you don't then it's down to if you like the game, controller, and not bothered by fancy online play.

Also if you need wireless internet connection then the PS3 is the cheaper solution.

All in all the PS3 is very worth it if it fits your needs.

Also... About it being expensive... How many high end gaming PCs can you buy for $400? None. Now is the PS3 a high end gaming PC? Yes it is as it's a fully working stand alone Linux box and there are quite a bit of games that run in OpenGL on Linux.

The funny thing is that there will be a Linux version of Crysis coming out and the PS3 will be the cheapest way to play that game with good settings. :icon6:

NoPeace - out

whoa srsly? I haven't heard that, I knew they were working on dedicated server software for linux. Is it gonna be an openGL port, or are they gonna use software like wine?

And yeah, the ps3 is worth the money, its a number crunching supercomputer with its cell processor. Oh and u can game on it!

Again that's a load of crap...
To quote myself from a few posts back...

It's all down to the preferences of the media options, controller, exclusive games and online play.

I agree with Gohan.

I've played the PS3 and the XBOX 360, and the difference between the quality of the graphics is microscopic. Both console's graphics are almost the same. To actually decide which one is better it's down to your own opinion, or down to handling, gameplay etc...

I'm going to make a thread for all of this once and for all, i will write a objective view on all 3 consoles, PC's and both handhelds. I own everything except for the PS3, but i know it's pro's and con's so that should be fine.

In our house we have a ps3, 2 360s(one normal one elite) and a wii. I think all the consoles were worth it, and also to the fact that you can buy a 360 cheaper than a ps3, if you want a 360 that can do what the ps3 can, like connect to wireless internet play hd dvds etc, the costs would prolly put the 360 up to more expensive.

i agree the ps3 is good but:

-it is still same if u dont play on hd television
-if u have like broken things it will cost you a fortune
-if u have ps3 and hd tv, and u want to play ps2 games really the graphics are superbad.

but except that all its a magnific console
