Guys, what do you think, is it worth doing this and creating a server from scratch and in Unreal Engine 5?

Almost every year someone starts to do it and project appears dead after a while. The key question is: Do YOU want it? And for what? If it's fun/community shared open source project, consider it dead already. If you need it for yourself, custom server - go for it, but believe me, there will be so many problems to face and fight with. After S5 main source release people spent years just to port it no newer OpenGL and fix bugs. This project is something that requires big coding and design team.

Also, UE5 min specs for PC are above average MU player budget xD

I've already started working on it, but I don't think it'll be fast without some income. I want to make it—you could even say it'll be an expansion project—with lots of different features, lots of different working classes. I want to add things so people don't just log in, level up, and then log out. I want people to have real fun and truly lose themselves in the game for a while, without thinking about the present. I understand it's time-consuming, energy-intensive, and resource-intensive, but what can I do? I want it to be truly fun and bring back the old days.

I don't think anyone will do it, but I'd like someone to at least make maps. That will make it much faster and make Season 0 playable. Then, maybe someone will add more features if I don't have the energy.

Well, then it won't be MU game anymore :) Just another game with MU assets. Anyway, no hate from me at all

A cool idea and a fun project, probably might take awhile and might be abandoned somewhere mid way, but in general.. rather than rebuilding, why not attempting to build an actual expansion, rather then re-creating the game Nth time?
I mean there has been so many re-creations of Mu Online, that I've lost track. Only, somewhat valid, was MuLegend, but apart of that - it a tiny bit reskinned mu online or some project that suppose to be online in 2019.

From an old-school perspective, I understand why people feel that the old days were much better. Most importantly, the emotions and overall experience of gaming back then were completely different.

Nowadays, old engines have a lot of flaws and vulnerabilities that make the situation much worse. They are vulnerable to cheats, speed hacks, dupes, and other similar tools. DDoS attacks can sometimes prevent even really good projects from working properly or even launching at all, simply because some little **** learned how to operate a couple of DDoS tools.

Right now, I want the game to be developed for PC first, so that it can be played properly, and only afterwards brought to mobile devices while maintaining the same quality.

It would help me a lot if there are already-made world maps available. If anyone has some lying around somewhere, please upload them here or send them to me.

If, for some reason, I eventually realize that I can’t continue, I may give up on the idea and leave the project for someone who can finish it (I definitely have no such thoughts right now).

If that ever happens, I’ll put everything on the forum so that someone with the right skills can continue what I started. I hope there will be enthusiasts out there who are just as passionate about this project as I am.

How is it going? Keep up posted, it'll also help you with accountability :)

And what others said is very worth to keep in mind, if you deviate too much, you lose the nostalgia effect, and then you won't have the players from MU Online, which means you're working on a completely new game
