NCsoft has officially changed logon procedures for Aion Korea and NA. They require that users login to the NCSoft Launcher to login to the game.

What does this mean?

1. You are no longer permitted to use batch files to log into retail servers. It will ask you to login from the web site once you try logging in from the client-side logon screen. You will also notice the 'Log Off' feature is not an option; you either can exit or go back to the character screen.

2. What does that mean for private servers and 4.8? Absolutely nothing, for now. Surprisingly, NCSoft has NOT removed the logon screen from the client itself as of yet. Aion Core staff has confirmed that Private Servers still accept 4.8 logons from within the 4.8 client itself; including the latest version. This also includes the ability to log off your account and still log back in.
So you can still update your 4.8 clients to use on 4.8 Aion-Core and Aion-Lightning when they are released officially in the future.

3. What happens if they officially remove the logon screen in a future release? It will require developers to create a separate logon to do the same thing, but shouldn't entirely block development of private servers in the future. If anyone has seen the Tera development forums here on RageZone, that is how their game launches for a private server.
UPDATE: 4.9 client still contains the Login Screen in-game, and does work with Aion-Core login server. Good news for all of us
