hey guys I have a little request: I've been looking on the web for my jazz band music and I'm having a little trouble with some of the songs. Here's a list of all of the jazz band music my teacher gave me (and I hope the appropriate ..ummm...well just read ;))

  1. Blue Ronda A la Turk - Dave Brubeck
  2. Bye Bye Love - Ray Charles (I got the album I believe so we're okay with that song :p)
  3. Cotton Tail - duke Ellington
  4. Critical Mass
  5. Cute
  6. Dance to the Music - Sly and the Family Stone(yes I have this song, trust me it's in the Shrek soundtrack xD)
  7. Critical Mass - Jeff Jarvis
  8. Fatback and Greens - Jeff Jarvis
  9. Fly me to the Moon - Bart Howard
  10. Granada Smoothie - Mark Taylor
  11. Harlem Nocturne - Earle Hagen
  12. Johnny's Theme - Paul Anka and Johnny Carson
  13. Rock a Bye your Baby - ....idiot copying the music cut off top of the music so...oh well
  14. Rush - Yoko Kanno (got that one :p)
  15. Spinning Wheel - David Clayton Thomas
  16. Splanky - Neal Hefty
  17. Stomping at the Savoy - Benny Goodman, Edward Sampson, and Chick Webb
  18. Sweet Georgia Brown - Ben Bernie, Maceo Pinkar, and Kenneth Casey
  19. Take Five - Paul Desmond
  20. Take the 'A' Train - Billy Strayhorn
  21. Tank! (covered)
  22. the chicken - Alfred James Ellis
well that's all of it (over 1 grand in jazz band music :D). I got some songs from rhapsody but it's tarding out and wants me to buy it -.-

I guess you guys are afraid to post here because:
you have no taste in music and have no clue what those songs are
or you're being selfish . I myself have found most of the songs on rhapsody, but a few are still out of reach.

I looked on some sites, but didn't come up with much. I did not look on rhapsody though.

You might as well just download it from someplace.

You'd find most everything using a program like Limewire Pro or something.

well thanks for the effort guys, my band director wants us to listen to the songs since we're....."too white for jazz" :p
I really like the song "Blue ronda a la turk" because of the 9/8 and 12/8 time :D (the 9/8 is either counted 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8-9 or 1-2-3 4-5-6 7-8-9...oh how I love alternation
and yeah cheat I may have to do that. Bittorrent's really got nothing on any of these songs :\

If you want some more good jazz listen to some

And if you don't know who Maynard Ferguson is...you better start listen to his stuff. This man was the Boss of jazz... If anything your trumpets should know who he is.

On one of his tours he stopped into my town and held a concert at our high school with one of his bands...And it was by far to this day, the best concert I have ever been to. I just wish he was still alive today.

If you need any others feel free to let me know, I can hook ya up.

actually I may a mistake. I put critical mass up there twice. The missing song is Gospel John (by you know who :p). Damn man you're lucky, lol I can't top that. what I can say is that my granpda almost hit William Faulker. Drunk Bastard *shakes fist*

Songs I've played by him - Coconut champagne, Gospel John, and of course Birdland

What you think about funk and new orleans jazz? Tower of Power, James Brown, Jaco Pastorius, dr John, The Neville Brothers etcetera.

Some good jazz imo is: Dave weckl, Miles Davis, John Scofield, Ben Webster and all those guys.

Some great funk/jazz/blues songs are imo: Chameleon, The chicken, Minor Funky Blues, Goodnight Irene, I heard it through the grapevine

What ya think about those?

But heck yeah, some cool jazz can be a hell to find, hope you'll find it mate :)
