networking

Trying to setup some networking for hosting

What i have

two computers

two network cards

broadband

a cat5 cable

I should be able to have the internet shared ussing this cross over cable shouldnt i

yet i get error saying cable not connected; it is connected bia the cable

I have configured everything in all the guides i have read, with my tc ip etc to 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 and now im stuck

any network wizzes out there?

a router is on its way incase this doesnt work.

please help

well...im not a nertworking wizz or any of that stuff but i have a m8 that is and i brought up your prob to him

the only things that he says that could be rong
is that there is a comon prob on crossover cabels of cat5 that is they were badly made =s try using it on another networking if it doesn't work at least you know that the prob is the crossover cable if not.....he says that could be a setup configuration prob

im jsut waiting for a network wizz to come set up my own network :p so i got no clue..best way is to get a professional to look at it

btw staff the router is more realyabel, and it doesn't need to be a network genius to know that -.-

i found that i had a network cable not wspecifically cross over one so ill just use router. :)

soon.
