I suppose the market took a bounce today, or there was an overstock.. and I did this today:

ORDER TIME: Sat Apr 07 2007 01:04:08 P.M.
PT ORDER CONTENT:

2 x (101259) Western Digital Caviar SE 16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s ***Free Shipping*** @ $125.00
------------------------------
SUBTOTAL : $250.00
SALESTAX : $.00
SHIPPING : $.00
TOTAL : $250.00
------------------------------

Checked my normal sites I go to, and found the 500gb WD's Sata II 16mb buffers were ogoing at $125 apiece.. 400gb were going for $89 apiece... talk about a friggin dip in prices, this is almost half of what it was previously!! Big dip in the market there, on my next paycheck I'll get another couple if they stay this low as well!

Oh, and by the way.. they arent REPO's or crashed boxes... these are Bare Drives, which is the standard I usually get, I've got more then enough of my own power plugs, install disks (dont need them) and sata connectors :-)

Yeah even the Seagates have dropped in price. The 500GB 7200.10 is just $143.

Not bad prices. Hope the Seagates get as low as the WD drives. Would like to get some more storage myself but will wait for the Seagates to drop to the same price (I prefer them a lot over the WDs).

Still 1tb at $250 is insane.

Yeah, its a beautiful price, which si why Im thinking I -may- get 2 more on my next paycheck.. devote 2 to windows xp, 1 to vista, and 1 for my network storage/general storage

Lol... Just imagine the bragging rights.

"How much HDD space you got?"
"I got very little. Only 2tb."

:1:

But the prices are killer. Especially if you have a file server. A cheap upgrade.

I love ZipZoomFly.com and FedEx... my order is going to be here tommorow, most likely about 9 or 10 in the mornign as per usual.. not bad for a 2 day delivery ;) All I had to do was pay an extra $2.99 to speed the process up a bit!

Getting 2x 500g WD's, and a 206bw (My dad was eyeballing my 226bw when he came over to visit, and since its his 50th birthday coming up, decided to treat him to a 206bw (same stats as mine.. just 2" smaller) and those are getting in tommorow.

And anotehr good thing, got my tax rebate back... so if I really felt like it, I could buy another TB of room.. or heck, even 2.. but I doubt I will do that, I really need to get rid of my current DVD R/RW, and my CDRW Combo drive and get a nice high quality pair to use, my CDRW combo isnt wanting to autoplay anymore, and CD reading is iffy.. and I just feel like spending some money on some nice fast ones -shrugs-

Evil... They went up a dollar for 2-day shipping. =P

Used to love paying just $1.99 for every order to get 2-day shipping.

Evil... I so wanted to get a 206BW. Was planning on getting one or a new home theater system (Sony HT-7000DH) to replace my current half dead 4 year old one.

Well the HTS was on sale at Best Buy for $350 (regular $500) so I went for that. But just my luck every store didn't have it in stock as it's discontinued and replaced with the HT-7100HD. So I ended up spending $475 on it. Now I'm so bloody broke.

Need to wait another month before I have enough cash to maybe get a tb of drive space. O.O

SATA drives are getting cheaper now and more available. Maybe you should check them out. =P

Windows is damned tricky, lol..

First.. to install multiple large hard drives, you can only connect one at a time and install it, so its hardware address is put into windows.. then you disconnect the main one (after you power off), install the next one.. get it set up with WD's Lifeguard tools.. then you power down, and finally you can plug them both in adn get them going.

Nothing like having over a TB in Windows XP.. gosh, nwo I just have to backup all my crap and figure what I keep an ddont keep, might end up doing my format tommorow, dont feel liek messing around with it tnoight.

I still have to download all of my latest drivers, put them into one neat spot, and then burn them to CD and label it so I dont have to dick around with a million CD's (Best way to do it in my honest opinion.)

A Segate 500Gb Sata 2 Hdd costs about 257$ AUS, and thats a cheap online store..

Yea but 320gb's can get as low as about $130 AUS (probably even $120)... why not get 2 of those for cheaper? SATA is good in that sense because you are not restricted to the amount of HDD's you can have like you are with IDE drives. Most new mobos have eSATA connectors as well, and 4-8 SATA connectors internally so you really have that freedom to get 2x 320 instead of spending extra for a 500gb.

Wow... I never had that problem with my Seagates. Just plugged 2 in and it worked after running the setup software. No effort at all.

And yeah... 1tb of drive space is something else. Never have to worry about running out for a few years. =P
