Original post:

Is anyone else out there still interested in GTH? I have been working with GTH again recently and I am trying to gauge community interest.

I've worked with GTH in the past but it was always a side project, nothing I took seriously. The main project that was always in the way is no longer going to be in the way again, so I'm ready and excited to re-explore GTH.

If you have experience running or developing a GTH server, or if you just consider yourself an expert at the game in general, I'd love to talk and/or collaborate. Send me a message if you're interested.

Does this mean you have a server up and running? I've played this game ages ago and was wondering if someone had revived it.

Thanks for dropping by!

Yeah, fully working locally. Although not with the various files posted here. So we have a lot of work to do before the files are considered anywhere close to stable or secure.

We won't be running a server but enabling others to do so in the easiest and safest way possible. Our current goal is to release a playable "offline" version. This will allow others to download the files and help us test, find bugs, etc. As we make updates the files will be posted for free.

No server files will be sold to anyone, unlike other people in the past.

The files are already done. Right now I'm just working on the supporting elements. Things like documentation, workflow for reporting bugs, where we are going to have discussions (Discord?), etc... As soon as that is done, we're posting the files, then it is full speed ahead with development.

If you're interested in supporting us, consider joining us on Discord:

I'm interested in the game. Been years trying to make my own server for solo play but kept failing :ROFLMAO:. Still have the GTH229.zip and gth_V5.zip on my drive

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not good at develpment. Just a normal player missing his GTH days from e-games

Stepping into GTH at first is certainly a struggle. Even after you get the files "working" there are a lot of issues to fix. Mismatched source/database differences to understand. Hard-coded database settings....

If you are still wanting to set up GTH to play locally, you're going to love what we will be releasing in the next 1-2 weeks.

The files you have, the GTH229.zip is more than likely part of some e-games archives that a certain person purged from RaGEZONE while they were a moderator. I don't think those files ever got posted again. But that is mostly because they are useless to most people. The default E-Games stuff was built in Visual C++ from 1998, it is difficult to get the compiler installed on modern OS correctly much less actually develop with it.

The "GTH V5" is likely Lucky's "v5" source. That source would be more useful to beginners since as part of Lucky's work he converted it to newer VS, I believe VS 2005. All of the bugs listed on his thread were fixed in his "v5" source. It is basically e-games latest source + Lucky's own edits to it through various iterations (ending on v5).

Ah that makes sense, opening the v5 file I see alot of files more than the 229 ones. I've already managed to connect the the database and up the server. Only issue I had was trying to launch the game as it forced me to run it from the patcher. For v5 server it opened the game but won't connect to the server. I'm guessing I need to re-build the client.exe to use local ip as it might be using a different one. Had trouble with that one since I'm not familiar with Visual Studio

Lucky's files were edited to require the patcher. It is one of the annoying parts of attempting to use his files. You change it you would need to edit out the requirement in the source and then compile your own client.

Then you run into some mismatched DB issues depending on which exact files are being used.

Don't get discouraged brother, the files are a proper mess.

We hope to have a release soon that will at least all match. It has issues to address but all parts work together nicely. Since we are basing on original e-games we have all the typical issues to fix. I had a very busy work week so I am a little behind but we hope to release something very soon.

We've posted our initial version of these files. Fair warning, they are still very buggy and need work. We'll be actively improving them, but as it is right now the game is at least playable.

A separate thread will be made eventually, For now you can find the files here:

thank you look like classic 90s-2000s game i like it
True classic, golden era MMO. When I was young this game was amazing to me. It makes me happy being able to have the opportunity to maintain and let other people experience it.

We have a lot of plans. Scott and I are just getting started up again. With the priceless assistance from Adam (GTH Relight) and occasionally Alyx (from our old RF-Dev team), we are going to do some really awesome stuff over time. Stay tuned.

Its been ages since I last played the game but I somewhat forgotten about this.
IIRC, some of the GTH original devs now works on Black Desert (Pearl Abyss) along with the people who created Continent of the Ninth (C9).
I humbly ask for a refresher, what does this game make it unique from other mmorpg?

there is a pack system why you can recycle armor for SA / RA (health and mana).

Honestly? Almost nothing.

The game is very dated. The UI sucks. The maps are small. The game is very hackable. The game meta doesn't really make very much sense (at least to me). It was a pay to win MMO before people knew what pay to win MMOs were.

The combat style felt very different from other MMOs at the time. The community was also pretty good. It is definitely more so a PvP game, even down to having a PvP tournament system. Remember this was mid 2000's.

It was nowhere near the best of its time, but it was a great game to default to and chill in when you weren't sure what else to do.

For me it just highlights a specific era of growing up playing these games. I remember loving the art and the music a lot more than the game itself. Oh, and of course the game launcher. The original e-games launcher still inspires my own launcher designs to this day. So it has just always been at the back of my mind to try and revisit and maintain. But life and other projects always got in the way.

I'm glad we were finally able to release something. I also hope this inspires other people to look at these legacy games simply for the sake of keeping memories alive. The games may suck but the memories are priceless.

Dude, this has to be the fastest I've ever done to up the server. Thank you! Now I need to remember how to create a GM account and normal account. Been so long I don't remember the steps anymore

Ron Just a heads up, so after reading your tutorials, I manage to create my own account and successfully logged in. Currently the issue is that I am unable to create a new character. Even with the test account I couldn't create a new one. Clicking Create sends me back to the menu with empty slots. No issues playing the existing ones though
