Make 2.4GHz parabolic mesh dishes from cheap but sturdy Chinese cookware scoops & a USB WiFi adaptor !
The largest (300mm diam)shows 15-18dB gain (enough for a LOS range extension to 3-5km), costs ~US$5 &
comes with a user friendly bamboo handle that suits WLAN fieldwork- if you can handle the curious stares! Here

Holy shit! I've always wanted to buy one to actual steal a neighbor's wifi signal for free internet access!!! Have to check this out!!!!

Only other one that may know something like this would be neosparky :P

I should've mentioned free broadband internet access......since alot of people in households are getting wireless routers to send their cable/dsl signal wirelessly throughout the house, with them big ass dish antennas you can actually "steal" the signal and get an ip address from it and use it for yourself.

I did it for 2 months with a neighbor awhile ago, but then think they moved out.........
