Question about .enc files !

I have question , in what protocol the .enc files encoded?

I have heard it is a custom type. The folks that figured out how to dump the unencrypted copies from memory said that the client doesn't hold any info about encrypting, only decrypting, so they weren't sure how to re-encode.
