I'm not sure if this is the right section. If it is, sorry.

Whenever I attempt to get on the internet on my Presario F500 Windows XP, it only shows the local area connection.
Sometimes, when I restart, it appears, but most of the time my adapter is gone. I can't access anything related to the wireless adapter.
I can't figure it out, I reformated, installed the wireless and everything, it worked. Now, the next day later(today) it's gone, and can't get it to work.

I reinstalled the WLan adapter again, and the Wireless helper, but it still doesn't show.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

HP make some rubbish laptops, this could be either a motherboard failure or a wireless module failure.

This is a pain in the ass, as the wireless is fucked and only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard. I have had this problem on several laptops and replacing the wireless module (minipcie) with another oem part can cause the laptop to not boot. A message shows up on the screen that the part is not hp/compaq.

Is your wireless card intel based ?

if yes then all you can do is pray. compaq/hp seldom replace motherboards, usually they replace the ram and format your hard disk :)

There is nothing you can do other than exchange this computer for another one.

Eh, I remembered I had a old external belkin wireless adapter. xD
Thanks for the tips about HP though. ^^
