Not sure what you see, but I see depth. The first one is excellent, love it. The second one is a bit off for me, the text is very weird and doesn't really work, and that blotch of white is odd ;D. Otherwise, nice job.

I only got that idea from SP's tutorial and how to add some nice colors through gradient maps.
And how am I stealing someone else's work, by following like 2 or 3 steps from a tutorial?
