I just want to know if you agree to this whole sorry day that happend a few days ago where the Prime minister and the other people had to apologize to the aboriginals about the so called Stolen Generation.

I don't agree that we have to apologize to the aboriginals because we wern't the ones that even did take their children and put them into homes :l It was the Prime Minister at the time that should be apologizing not us. ar well I will see what you think.

i think it is important to acknowledge what was done is wrong, you are not apologising for your personal actions but you are saying you do disagree it was wrong

the next step is to back that up with action, which sadly rarely happens

No way. Aboriginals can go **** themselves. Ever seen a law abiding intellectual aboriginal? I sure as hell haven't. All they do is smoke and take drugs and drink and rape eachother and claim welfare that us the taxpayers have to pay for. A whole village of them has a combined IQ of about 50. They get $10,000 for every child they have, thats why they have such large families. Any way to get money.

They are a drain on society and a drain on our economy and a drain on anything else they can get their hands on.

Wow... that was... heated?

There was a very good point in a local paper yesterday (a letter from a reader) pointing out the fact that a lot of young (white) mothers also had their children taken and put into foster care etc, because it was assumed that young (I don't know exactly, but I'm assuming <18) mothers weren't capable of taking good care of their kids, which was much the same original mentality behind this 'stolen generation' bruhaha... I doubt those mothers (or their descendants) will get the same compensation now... seems racist :P
Another thing to note is that many of the 'half-caste' (interracial) offspring which were among the first taken, were the result of rapes by white oppressors at the time.

'Dole bludgers', 'welfare leechers', whatever you want to call them, are a problem in any race/society with a welfare system, maybe some of the reasons why it's more prevalent in abbo communities is because 1) it's easier and more productive than it would be for non-abbos in their same position, 2) aboriginal cultural/traditional pressures discourage integration to the level that would be required for successful careers to be pursued in australia's very 'westernised' society, and 3) If young people don't have good examples to follow, most of them will just perpetuate the mistakes of their parents, so it's much less likely that an abbo kid of welfare parents will actually pull his/her finger out and get a job/education.

Personally I think much less should be put into 'welfare' cheques and much more into welfare services - housing, medical assistance etc... I've been on the dole for about 8 months once (after being out of work for 4 months) - it was heaps tbh, even after rent (though rents have gone up about double in the past 3 years so maybe not now)..

Bottom line is, if this was just about acknowledging past wrongs against past people then there would be no problem, but as we all know, in this day and age every man and his dog wants his day in court if it's going to get him a free ride, and that's exactly what will happen, since 'sorry' is too ambiguous, and can be taken to imply responsibility for present wrong situations and thus compensation to current people affected...

If you have a disability of some sort, something which cannot be fixed with current technology, like blindness, or a really weak heart (I have a mate with that), or something else which severely limits your job prospects and/or the hours you can work in any given job, then I can understand the need for tax-funded compensation schemes... but 'being aboriginal' is NOT a disability. 'Being raised with inadequate education and lack of parental stability' or whatever you might call it, IS a disability, but one that can be corrected through training and (non-financial) assistance, to get someone to the same level as the average well-educated person.

One of my brother's best mates is 1/8th abbo, and he gets his way paid for him... This is a guy who comes from a good family 1 street away from where I grew up, with shopping center 1km away and maccas even closer... not out in the bush somewhere.. his mum had 2 kids I think, ours had 5 (some with disabilities, nothing huge but enough to make raising us harder) - they probably got as much or more 'assistance' than us, for no reason other than his genetics.. he's not a bad guy but I think having extra given to them in school/job/welfare/etc just makes people more lazy.. it's a disservice to them, it hurts them not helps them... it may help them buy playstations and xboxes but it makes them worse people, and that's sad.

Maybe welfare should just be cut off altogether... if they're so adamant about 'preserving their culture' (this is the justification they give for denying their kids access to 'non-abbo' education, letting 'elders' get away with terrible crimes, etc) then maybe all welfare should just be stopped and they can go back to living off the land - then any extra kids would just starve, as nature would have originally intended.

Gotta draw the line somewhere

EDIT: Sorry, thought I was in the Debate section
