Ok, so here's the deal. Right now we're running all our server apps on one comp, and Im guessing we're way over our limit (250+ users), common crashes and insane pending write etc. So Im thinking of purchasing another comp in the same building.

After our second comp purchase we would have two comps on a gigabit network connection to eachother (100 mbit internet connection to the world per comp) and the specs would look like this:

Comp 1:

Dual Xeon 2.8 Ghz
2 GB RAM
2x 120 GB 7200 RPM drives
Currently has 5x 4GB pagefile partitions
Windows 2003 Standard

Comp 2 (What we're thinking of getting):

Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz
1 GB RAM
80 GB drive space
Windows 2003 Standard

What will this do to our max user count? How many do you think we could handle after we purchase the second comp ? How would we split the apps? (What programs would be running on which computer?)

Thanks for your help >< Please respond :P

CacheD and LogD on that celeron would free up additional memory from PC1. If you also run Petition server, you can put that in PC2, too. It'll free up roughtly 500-750mb of memory. You don't necessarily need such a large harddrive, just a REALLY fast one for running L2servers. 2x 10k rpm Scsi 18GB raid setup is better than a 7.2k RPM ide raid setup.

Your setup would look like this:

PC1: L2Server.exe, L2NPC.exe, L2AuthD.exe
PC2: CacheD.exe, L2LogD.exe, Petition.exe

As for it increasing max user count, that depends on what your connection can support. For each user you need 8kb bandwidth per player connection. That's what the 8kb next to pend writing means and that you need a fast hard drive to keep up with the send/recieve data.

PC1(Intel 2.4g-192.168.0.1-):SQL DB, L2Log, L2Auth, L2Cache, L2Petition, Website, L2Admin
PC2(Dual Xeon-192.168.0.2-):L2NPC, L2Server, and NOTHING ELSE

Put them all on a router/Hub, Configure each ini file, only need to foward port 7777/2106 from internet. 2106 foward to ->192.168.0.1 7777 foward to -> 192.168.0.2

also in SQL lin2db DB change table server 'innerip=192.168.0.2" and outerip=your.ip.here

If your running windows 2003 on the Dual Xeon machine, then set IOBUFFERPOOL to 15,000.

PC1:IP - 192.168.0.1

LogD.ini

[Logd]
address=192.168.0.1
port=3999

Config.txt

[L2Auth]

logdport=3999

CacheD.ini

[LogD]

port=3999

Config.txt

[L2Petition]

That's a better setup, but I can never get players to log into the gameworld if L2Auth isn't on the same machine as L2Server and L2NPC. What else did you configure differently? Because my configuration as you posted is exactly the same.

Uh, My server is setup that way and people can login just fine, Only I cant login locally :p

Did you foward the ports correctly?

Yup, even if I didn't. I've also tried disabling firewall completely. Still won't let anybody pass server selection screen to char selection screen. So I'm just stumped on this problem.

Damien please dont claim you built the server from as you didnt create the sql scripts nor none of the data files, and you did come here a HELL OF A LOT asking for help, so in reality, you didnt build any servers from scratch. Now whether or not he was in the right accusing you of trying to leech users remains to be seen. Just please dont claim you created anything from scratch.

Would you like me to post the logs where you were claiming to have stolen them from Capn? Lets not mention the fact that you came and offered them in the first place. Leech users? Yes. The second I went to do maintenance you'd boast about your server then go and tell people to PM you for site link etc. I have logs of that as well.

well i told people in your channel while you were there to pm me if they want to play on my server while yours was down. Dont complain to me that your server was down so long.
I didnt steal them from Capn. He willingly sent them to me.

Pfft... just keep the entire L2 server on the dual Xeon box and make the website on the 2nd box. There is no reason why a dual Xeon machine can handle the entire L2 server with 250+ users. It should be able to handle 1000 without a sweat. If possible, put the MSSQL server on the 2nd box too.
