OK, I havent written any guides for years now, this isnt a guide to fix or add something to your server, this is the guide to Perfection for your server.
So you are planning on hosting a long-term server (this is the type of server this guide is reffering on), you will need to do some things on your own to promote your server, make it look professional and fix bugs & runover problems.
1.Your website.
Its always Preffered to have a nice and secure website with a clean & professional-looking template. If you are going for a big server, you should design or pay someone to design for you a unique & cool website layout and mod your website to death. Suggested script to use is MuWeb. I dont really know since I havent been online lately but thats what most people use. You should avoid using simple scripts.
2.Server host
Big server, Dedicated hosting, Small server, your pc. If you are hosting your server at home you should have a good amount of RAM, 1-2GB is the worst. 2-4GB recommended. A good proccesor is also required, and most important a sharp internet connection. Tip, players hate it when server goes down. If you want to host your server on a good PC that will be dedicatidly running your game i suggest your buy a host, they cost around 70$-100$ for 1GB of RAM, 3Ghz P4 And 10-100mbs port. Recommended hosts:
3.Advertising / Promoting
Lets get serious things. The key to succes is giving to players what they want. High rate servers Get more ppl when they open but they are probably going down after a while... Low rate servers are the ones that have been around forever, when you open your low rate server maybe not lots of people join but if you have patience, you will see results.
- No1: Tops lists & Voting. Xtremetop100, Gtop100, MMORPGtoplist and all those lists are gonna be your main traffic source at the beggining so spend some time and write a nice and clear description of your server and submit your server. Not lots of people vote and ofc you shouldnt force them with some stupid script, just vote yourself
- No2: Submit your server in advertisment section, yup, ragezone is offering you a great advertising offer, dont miss it
- No3: More complex advertising, like submiting in sites directories to build up a good Google Page Ranking (
