If they have trashed your index then you can do nothing but restore from backup unless they were kind enough to back up your index (i doubt it).

i doubt that he spent time, i bet he didn`t had too much security in his webserver and he was a easy target. this should help you learn your lesson, do not start something unless you know what you are doing!
