Going Public!
This guide will help users wishing to go public and allow users from all over the world connect to their very own private MapleStory server. For this guide, we will be using a Hex Editor to edit the target of the MapleStory executable file.
-Step One- Download the following:
-Step Two- Install Hex Workshop and extract Localhost.exe to your desktop
-Step Three- You need to find out your WAN IP.
You can easily do so from
This is also known as your External IP Write this down, as you may need it later on as well, when setting up your Registration Page, which you can also find on this webpage and from various forums that have my guide.
-Step Four- Open up "localhost.exe" with Hex WorkShop.
Now, you should see a bunch of numbers on the left hand side and some dots with the occasional letters on the right hand side. Thats a good sign, dont worry.
-Step Five- Press "Ctrl+F" a box should pop up titled "Find"
In the type box select "Text String" and type "127.0.0.1" in the box labeled value and hit enter.
Your screen should have jumped and you should see three entries of "127.0.0.1"
Click right before the number "127" and start typing out your "WAN IP" which you should have noted down from earlier on in the tutorial. You are allowed to go over any necessary "." but do not press backspace.
Once you have replaced the three instaces of "127.0.0.1" press "Ctrl+S" and if you are prompted to save a backup, press yes.
-Step Six- Navigate to where your edited "localhost.exe" and if you are still able to see a "MapleStory" logo then your edit was a success, if not, then try again.
-Step Seven- Navigate to your server files folder and locate "world.properties".
Open this up with either WordPad or NotePad and search for the line:
"net.sf.odinms.channel.net.interface=127.0.0.1"
Replace "127.0.0.1" with your "WAN IP".
Save and exit.
-Step Eight- Send off your edited "localhost.exe" to your players to connect, while you use an original "localhost.exe".
You can edit the name of your edited "localhost.exe" simply by renaming it, but be sure to keep the ".exe" extension on, otherwise your client will not run.
[Notes] Some server owners may not be able to connect after completing this guide. Do not worry!
Simply follow the guide on "Setting Up Microsoft Loopback Adapter" and owners will be able to connect again!
Again, have fun!
