[Tut] Setting up Internet Forum Softwares (IFS) Web

What is Internet forum software (PHP)?

Internet forum software (PHP) are forums run on your web server (eg. WAMP, Abyss Web Server). I like WebServer as they are more personal and dedicated.


Recommended Internet forum software:

FREE SOFTWARES

1. phpBB - More functions but installation may take up some times.

2. Simple Machine Forum - I prefer this. Almost same functions as phpBB. Simple and easy to use.

3. MyBB - Quite okay. Simple to use also, but generally lesser functions.

4. Vanilla - Although this is quite disorganise, this, in my opinion, is more slick and admin can have a better control of the forum


PAID SOFTWARE

1. vBulletin - I love this. Slick, easy, simple etc etc etc.

2. MyProBB - Never use before, but my friend say that this is quite okay, since it is simple also.

3. UBBThreads/UBBGallery - Has a "Main" annoucement page.

What You Need?
1. A IFS (Internet Forum Software)
2. A webserver (Abyss or WAMP recommended)
3. MySql configuration and tools
4. PHP Packages (If you are using Abyss)


Installation:

[Note] I am using Simple Machine Forum. However, feel free to post any questions here, as I am sure you will get alot of problems if you are using phpBB. (That's why I switch to Simple Machine Forum)

[Note for Abyss WebServer]If you are using Abyss WebServer, remember to install your PHP Package using Innovation's Guide here: http://forum.ragezone.com/showthread.php?t=451785

1. Download you desired IFS.

2. Extract them (If applicable) to your web server reading file. (WAMP: www file, Abyss: htdocs file)

3. Now, go to your forum page. (Eg. youdomain/<file name for you forum>

4. You should be introduced into a Installation page. If not, redirect the installation page yourself. (Eg. Simple Machine Forum:

To view the content, you need to sign in or register

Note that if you cannot find install.php, source into their folder like Documents or Uploads etc for the install.php)

5. Go to you MySQL and create a database. In this example, I am using forum as my database name.

6. Type in the information as shown below and press NEXT.

7. Type in the information as shown and press NEXT.

8. You should see your that you have finish configuring your forum. Next, tick the "Delete Install.php or install folder". If you IFS don't provide, delete it manually.

Hmm... Not bad! But, could you put the links that you need to make a IFS? Like the PHP Package and the Abyss Web Server.
