Well I don't normally listen to this genre of music, but I will say that I could totally see 08' D&B Session Part1 being played in clubs...

When I go out that's pretty much what you hear, that song is probably better then 90% they play too. Most people throw too much shit in the mix and you can't even tell what's going on. That song is nice and simple with that sorta creepy voice in the background... nice.

What program did you guys use? Sounds like Acid or Fruity Loops or maybe Ableton. You guys should check out Logic Studio if you're using apple computers, that program is amazing.

I use Renoise on the software side although all the sounds (like bass, melodies, etc) are sampled from my equipment apart from drums usually which I cut from various places and mess about with. I don't use any soft synths at all, and my VST use is minimal. For example the track "Number 5" samples my MC-505, Microkorg, Minikorg and Alpha Juno mk2. As for the texture being thick without overdosing on it... yeah, I concentrated on mixing down tracks that have the most important bits CLEAR in the mix although sometimes I admit my mixdowns get a little messy when I've got raw uncompressed bass sampled of my gear for example.
