This is on MaNGOS TBC.

I find when I edit my weapons, it takes a very long time to take effect. If I shut down the server, edit the weapon entry in the DB and then restart, no change has been made. Then a week or so later, the change comes into effect. How can I stop this from happening so my edits take effect in a usable timeframe?

the new weapons are ingame when you restart the server. but your wow client stores the data of every item you see. thats why you see the old weapons although you have modified them. simply close wow, delete your "wdb" folder and start it again, of course after you have made the changes on your server. now, wow gets new data so you see your new weapons.
