[web-host/php] Safe-mode?

I just found out my web host runs php in safe-mode and doesn't allow you to switch it off. I found this kind of odd, so I was wondering if it's normal for web hosts to run php in safe mode?

PHP running in safe mode is a extra security precaution. and its perfectly normal for PHP to be running in safe_mode. its actually better. its security is more enhanced then normal.

On my web host i am gien the option to turn it on it off by default  unless i turned it off and forgot hmm

Most web hosts allow you to turn it off yourself, or just ask...

My host, which happens to be a friend turned mine on cause he doesn't seem to trust me :( lol

Ah...PHP Safe Mode.

It's more secure. Also, some software requires it be off. For example. Invision Power Boards. phpBB(?), vBulletin, etc.

Basically some CMS's and Forum Software.

i never had any of those scripts which required safe mode off

It does. I own a IPB and vBulletin License (MOD/Skin Devlopmental Purposes).

IPB requires Safe Mode to be off, for skins to display properly.
vBulletin requires it to be off for uploads to work properly. Otherwise you get MySQL Errors. For vBulletin, you can set it so uploads can work, in the Admin CP.

I also got them both legal, (just for fun though)
Really, my server runs in safe mode and nothing ever has gone wrong.

Eh. I've noticed IPB requires Safe mode to be off, according to them, and vBulletin even tells you in the Admin CP, in Server Settings. =D

Anywho, these replies are good enough to answer the question.

Safe Mode Upload Enabled
*NO*
If your server runs PHP with SAFE MODE Restrictions, set this to yes.

server running in safe mode though all uploads are going fine.
