What better 32bit virtual or actual XP on a 64 vista system

i have toshiba M305s-S4830 but in order for my modem to work i need 32bit XP,

so what would be better to install a virtual machine so all my drivers would be running 64bit style or a actual machine (just install 32 bit xp on the comp
