Hi RageZone,

I'm a full-time software developer with a few weeks to myself over Christmas/New Years so I'm going to spend some time working on MS server stuff. (I had a lot of fun playing around with v55 and v62 back in the day and feel like getting back into it)

I've had a look around and I'm still confused about the state of development here, so I'm asking you guys for input:
What version currently needs the most work done on the server?
What is the best available (open source) server of that version?
What are the most important features missing that the community wants/needs in a public release?

TL;DR: what's the best way for me to give back to the MS dev community in the next few weeks?

P.S. At the risk of being met with skepticism, I'll add that I'm not looking for any form of payment for anything. I'm simply going to take the current best publicly available source code, fix bugs/implement missing features, and re-release it to the public.

Merry Christmas.

Hard to say, with this loopback client all the versions are scattered around, but the most recent public localhost would be v0.97/v1.00 (extalia's v1.01 client is packed with ASProtect :ehh:)

No open source server for anything post big bang besides DelphiMS which is pretty incomplete.

A localhost, lol. Public development is currently dead because most people are stuck on v0.83 and others have yet to learn how to get packets from the client itself (v0.97+), so uh yeah.

Learn how to unpack Themida :) or w/e GMS now packs their client with

strong skepticism is strong.

Version: I'd say a stable v88 server would help a lot.
LocalMS v88 would be the most open source source for that, if you can find a link for that...
Feature wise, I'd say just make it clean, like, GMS features all work but nothing like custom features and stuff. IMO that's what servers should use, instead of a repack like MapleBlade (copying servers ==")

I was about to be like, "Geez, not this thread again" but it seems like you really want to help so I'll be nice to you :) good luck

Great, horrible trolls tryna be dem trolzlozlzolz

Anyways.

The community really isn't lacking anything. We actually have more of something; leechers and f@ggots . c:

We'll do fine without them

Lol a few years ago this community was booming with activity. Sources were being advanced, etc. New versions came out every day.

I left GMS and came to ragezone and started to host servers. I taught myself decent JS, but I still cannot code actual Java. I've been on a v83 server for 2 years now.

Nothing has really changed. GMS hasn't really went beyond v83 (in terms of Java). MSEA is the only one that managed to get over. I don't want to leave v83 for a higher versioned source just because I have to learn another language.

I'm taking a look at Delphi's files right now. Completely different compared to Odin's.

It's a different programming language, what do you expect?

Vana is pro, I chill there once in a while and by their silence to be ignorant to my spamming messages, it is very impressive on how they are not fazed by spam.

Kudos to Vana. :)
