Finally got around to hooking up my x360 since moving and had a bout of Halo withdrawal. My gold membership had ran out a while ago and I had no real interest in renewing it yet, so I went looking for alternatives.
XBConnect
Played this for a couple hours, could always find a match and there was no real fear of running into the legions of modders/bridgers/standby that you do at 35+ in ranked matches. It's really only good for Halo & Halo 2 since no one plays other games on it.
Xlink Kai
This service has a lot of other games (and funnily enough almost no Halo / Halo 2) and is also cross platform (PC,Xbox,Xbox 360,GameCube,PS2) Although I could not relieve my need for Halo here, I could get a couple good matches of GoW & R6V.
GameSpy Arcade Tunnel
This service was ruined for me purely by the fact they had no Xbox 360 games support.
All require basic networking, but their piss easy to perform.
In reality theres no decent alternatives to the real Xbox Live, gonna go renew my gold this afternoon.
