Give your views on the matter, mine purely is that the XBox360 rules outright it is one of the best on the market because it was the first with an inbuilt hard drive and no need for the crummy memory cards that can get easily lost :D... i know from personal experience with my PS One and PS2, the only downside is that half of the XBox games are incompatible with the XBox360

i don't own any of them but i like the 360 more cause of it's games and it's cheaper

I honestly don't think this is worth debating any more.
They are non-comparable.
You can like one or the other or both, depending on the type of games you like to play or the features you want from the console.

For some reason this debate seems older then Evolution vs "Creative Design". As of right now I would have to say 360 until the PS3 gets its act together.

I don't own either system, but have played them both. I was originally a Playstation fan, but Xbox 360 ftw!!

Actually the XBOX was first to have a built in hdd and the PS2 was designed to support one latter on from day one. So the X360 didn't come out with it first.

And the HDD on the X360 is optional and costs more to have it while the PS3 has it included and gives you the option to easily upgrade it any time you wish. So with the HDD front the PS3 wins out. Why?

1) Comes by default
2) Large size compared to X360 equated offerings (20gb vs None and 60gb vs 20gb)
3) Allows you to upgrade to any size you wish.

Not really. The PS3 is much cheaper if you look at the big picture.

If you want both systems to have the same specs then look at the prices:

PS3

$600 - system
$100 - 120gb HDD upgrade
-----
$700 - total

X360

$480 - elite system (for HDMI and 120gb hdd)
$200 - HD DVD drive (for HD movie play back)
$100 - wireless adapter
-----
$780 - total

As you see to make them the same specs the X360 will cost the most. And that not including the fact that the X360 lacks a flash memory card reader.

I honestly don't think this is worth debating any more.

Actually they are comparable. The Wii isn't comparable to them.

The PS3 and X360 offers pretty much the same thing. HD gaming, HD movie play back, online gaming, and a media center.

Now in each section there is a winner and looser.

For gaming it's pretty much equal. Half of the games are on both system. The first gen cross platform PS3 games where a joke but the current and upcoming ones are just as good as the X360. For graphics its really down to the good old ATI vs nVidia difference which is down to personal taste. The games looks just as good on each other and there is no argue about that. So what it really boils down to is the controller. The X360 controller is better for FPS games while the PS3 controller is better for action and fighting games in my opinion. Out side of that the X360 does offer achievement points while the PS3 doesn't offer anything like that yet, but they will soon.

Now for HD movie support. You got BluRay on the PS3 and HDDVD on the X360. Same quality but the PS3 does offer 7.1 channel audio support while the X360 doesn't. And the X360 for some reason doesn't process videos as good as the PS3. Their are some jaggies on edges and some wave effects at times. The PS3 does a great job in avoiding that one. Also the PS3 upscales DVDs to 720p/1080i/1080p while the X360 can only do that with the VGA cable. So the PS3 wins back in video play back.

Now for online gaming. Which I don't have to say much about. X360 wins hands down. Everything about it is good except for one thing. It's costs money unlike the PS3's option. Other then that it's great. Not saying the PS3 doesn't have good online support. Playing games on it is just as good and it's free so no worry about paying money. So this field goes to the X360. Though if PS3 catches up to the X360 it'll win out because it's free.

Now for media center functions. They both can stream via Vista and WMP11 now. So that's equal. They both offer online downloads though right now the X360 has much larger content and offer full length movies in both SD and HD while the PS3 doesn't yet. They both will support IPTV in the future and in the end they will be equal in offerings. Though the only difference is the X360 has a much better interface for movies and music play back and IPOD support. So they will win out.

So in the end they tie in gaming, PS3 wins in movies, the X360 wins in online gaming, and with online content the X360 wins at the moment.

Though the PS3 does have some things that the X360 doesn't.

1) It can run linux and act as a stand alone computer.
2) You can print picture from it.
3) You can use flash memory sticks in it.
4) It has a built in web browser.
5) The online store is far superior. (easier to use and deal with)
6) Home (this is really going to own)
7) Upgradeable HDD by your own standards.
8) Some games can be installed on the HDD to increase load times
9) Tacked on motion sensor in controller (works well in some games and not i others)
10) Silent running
11) Remote video and game streaming to PSP

While the X360 does have something that the PS3 doesn't have also:

1) Cross platform gaming with Vista
2) Superior friends management
3) Built in IM
4) Cross platform controllers
6) Great achievement system

It's really hard to choose one system over the other unlike last gen where the PS2 just owned. If most of the games you want are on both systems then just look at the options that each system has and get the one that best suits you. If you want great online play and willing to pay for it then go X360. If you want a BluRay player or free online play then go for the PS3. Out side of that it's down to console exclusives thats going to decide it. And both systems have their fair share. You got MGS4, FFXIII, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and GT5 for the PS3 while you got Halo 3, Ace Combat 6, and well... Not much X360 exclusives because they are so easy to port to Vista, MS has decided to make them for both. Then again its still on a MS platform and you got Gears of War, Lost Planet, and a whole lot of other great games that wont be coming to the PS3.

Also the system fail rate on the PS3 is much lower then the X360. So keep that in mind but MS does give a 1 year warranty compared to Sony's 90 days.

wow lol didn't think about all that but since i'm probebly not gonna get a really big hdd or anything else i will mostly play games on it and right now the xbox360 games appel to me more so for me the 360 still wins although i have nothing against the PS3

ps3 , many people have tried the xbox 360 but not the ps3 , those who havnt tried the ps3 listen to the critics to much wit hthe " IT COSTS LOTS" dont forget though the ps2 wasnt cheap when it came out and that rocked , also a blue ray dvd costs ALOT more money than the ps3 itself so ur getting good quality blue ray dvd without need to buy addons like 360 and a great console , the ps3 games use better graphics than 360 ( mgs4 is to graphicly advanced to run on the 360 " hideo kojima director of metal gear " "Also the 360's processer power would mean we would have to strip down the engine "

The hard drive factor really isn't a winning point for PS3 nor the Linux as both can be done on X360 (I currently have my external 1TB connected to my 360 and working fine) and there is also Linux bootloaders for the 360. (Not sure if these work after the spring update anymore) If your feeling adventurous enough, you can also "install" some X360 games directly to a external HDD and play off of it.

Also, the "Home" video demo looked like a combination of Habbo Hotel and Mii, so I'm not sure whats so appealing about that.

Umm... You do know that the X360's graphics processor is faster then the PS3s? Gears of War would never run on the PS3 because of the GPU is just to weak.

PS3 GPU = 7800 GTX
X360 GPU =~ 2900XT

The difference in performance of the two is vast.

What the PS3 does have is a powerful CPU. The PS3 CPU is faster then any desktop processor and a dozen times more powerful then the X360.

So in the end the graphics is held back on the X360 and the CPU is held back in the PS3. So that is why games are about the same on each system.

1) You cannot save to external devices on the X360. So if you download something or save it game it wont get on that storage drive.

2) Linux don't work on the X360 and wont. MS will keep patching it so it'll never work.

With a slight bit of modding you can save such content over your home network via FTP (or XSATA which doesn't require modding), tho your
100% sure to make your 360 void on Live and the warranty. With modding you can also play burned 360 games off of a external HDD, but once again no Live for you.

Linux did work on the 360 until the spring update, it will just be a constant back and forward fight between MS and Linux fanboys. There have also been Linux live cd's (No Live banning) that have worked in the past and most likely will also work in the future.

You can do anything you want with a 360 if your willing to give up Xbox Live on that console. (Tho there's always alternatives such as Kai Link and XBConnect)

Well if you give up the Live support then you give up the only real advantage the X360 has over the PS3.

Not to mention I wouldn't put it past MS to start requiring some of the up coming big named games to have an online activation before usage to prevent the modding.

And how can you pull the data off of the X360's HDD and put it on the external drive? Sure you can load stuff from your PC to it but what about the video and games you dl to the X360's drive from the marketspace.

Sure you might be able to mod it. But for 99.99% of the users out there that isn't a viable option.

Where as with the PS3 it's a whole new story. There is a section of the users manual that tells you what to do step by step. And even then it's a matter of taking off one cover, removing one screw, and then pulling the drive out and putting in a larger drive. Then just turn the thing back on and it will set it up for you. No fuss at all.

does the ps3 use the 7800 card or just the chip?, if it does use the card could it not be modified to a 7900 or something?

The RSX chip used for the graphics is just a modified G70/71 chip. Aka 7800/7900 GTX. It is also equip with 256mb of memory and the performance is that of a 7800 GTX / 7900 GT.

The 7900s where die shrinks of the 7800s and ran at faster speed. Same basic architecture and that is what the PS3 uses.

You can retain your full Live and Warranty benefits by using a cheap ($50) 3rd party add on for your 360 (XSATA) which allows you to move files off your 360 drive to your PC (Or a external HDD with a Ethernet connection). Requires no Hard or Soft modding, no editing of the firmware and no irreversible changes to your 360.

So you can move Marketplace downloaded content back and forward between your PC and 360, including game saves, videos, theme packs, etc etc(Or even trade with friends). I do believe there is a community based around this concept ... somewhere. (Pretty much X360 Marketplace Warez) I would have to say the best part is it can't be detected in the Live scans, so your consoles unique ID number won't be blacklisted.

And while MS would no doubt love the idea of online game verification or even CD Keys, not everyone with a X360 is online. So to require that may cut out a minority of the market from buying new games (or force that market to join Xbox live)

Haven't played a PS3 yet, although I think both consoles are as good as eachother, same graphics etc.

Actually NoPeace, not to start anything but your quite wrong on the GPU comparsions for both systems. The PS3 GPU will out-run the Xbox360's GPU. The PS3 GPU is able to run in DirectX10 while the Xbox 360 is not able to. If you noticed that new game Cryses for PC will be sent to PS3 soon after the game is done. They wanted to try doing it on Xbox 360 but it cannot handle the power of DirectX10. Not only that, no one really knows how powerful the GPU in the PS3 really is because Sony won't realease the full specs of it. Just wanted to let you know that.

Honestly, If I could afford it I would buy a PS3, but I am content with my Xbox 360 for now.

Lets have this argument in about a year when PS3 has had a chance to put out the best games it can.

There you go opening your dumb mouth again....

Do you know what the biggest point of DX10 is? That is Unified Shaders. Do you know where that came from? It came from the Xenos development team from both MS and ATI.

So the x360 is the test bed for DX10. And most of the DX10 features will run on the x360. It's not fully 100% compatible but it comes close.

And for the PS3. The RSX GPU is made by nVidia. Not Sony. Sony can't release the full specs if they wanted to. Because they don't own the rights to it. Though nVidia does and they have released the specs of it many times. In fact I believe it's on the box itself (I aint going to dig the box out of the closet to check it).

Anyways if you do some research you'll find that time after time nVidia saying that the RSX is a modified G70/G71 GPU.

If you do some further looking into it you'll find that they are the high end GeForce 7 series GPUs aka the 7800/7900s. Now are they DX10 compatible? Not by a long shot. Do they have Unified Shaders? I don't think so.

So then how could it even run DX10 apps if it doesn't even support the very basic feature of DX10?

And if you didn't know. Unified Shaders is a big feature of DX10 for one reason. It makes it easier to port to the x360. Don't believe me? Ask any MS gaming rep and they'll tell you the same thing.

They want to merge the x360 and PC to have an effort less cross platform gaming experience.

I'm pretty sure with in the next few years you'll find a single game that works on both platforms. As the next gaming thing for Vista will be running the game live off of the CD as does consoles do. By that time the average person will have a PC with comparable specs to the X360 and can easily run the game on both platform. As the X360 is the basic building block for DX10.

And where does that leave the PS3? Not in the same place as the x360 that's for sure.
