Unsure of what the MS CMS scene is currently at skill-wise but I'll give you a basic todo list of things to learn to make a good adaptable CMS whether its MS, professional, hobby or anything else.
-HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL
-NodeJS (Backend)
-Express.js (Node Backend)
-Bookshelf.js (Node Backend)
-Vue 2 (Javascript Frontend)
Tutorials are very useful for learning quickly and finding an approach that works for you. Never be afraid to change your folder/file structure and to do things differently. Each developer has their own niche way of doing things that works out for them.
