No, this is incorrect because disconnect returns when character is null, which in this case it is. So yeah this release is wrong since it doesn't remove the character from the channel server.
If a character is stuck online, I'm sure that 99% of (if not all) the time, the client object of that stuck player will have a reference back to the stuck character... How would it lose that reference?
If you want to be safer, yes manually remove it, but it's probably not needed. I've used this method for 6-7 months now and it has pretty much always worked.
