Simple question.

Do i need to do everything on the vmare centos?

Was me installing sql 2005/server management express on the pc and not on vmare right or wrong?

You can install SQL in VMWare if You have XP there for example. But two virtual machines on one PC? -> don't be stupid ... of course if you have good PC you can do it, but for what? Ok:

1. SQL must be installed upon Windows, not in VMWare.
2. You can use CentOS, Fedora or something else based on RedHat ;-).
3. You can use VirtualBOX, VirtualPC or another VirtualMachine ( I heard something about coLinux or something too ) when You should install linux - you can use the second PC too ;-) - one with Linux ( ex. CentOS ), and one with Windows ;-). -> it's your choice ;-).
