The user experience indeed goes far beyond aesthetics. When I use a website, I don't just stare at it, admiring it. At least not without navigating. Not without intent. The actions that I do, how easy those actions are for me to do, the flow that I follow, the content that I read, in what order I read it, what I get out of it, and what it means to me - these are all parts of my experience as a user.

So the argument you're making is that if I want to be great at UX engineering, the best place to start is getting a Graphic Design degree?

You're way off the mark here and I truly don't think you're completely comprehending what UX actually is.
