Perhaps you can implement a "sage-like" feature where you can post in a thread without bumping it? Sometimes I'd like to make a small comment in an old thread without getting flamed. To prevent abuse the option should only be available to threads say... at least a week gone un-bumped, and maybe be on by default unless you choose not to.
