Pretty easy though,
If u might have a server, (or VPS)
and it is running linux and u prob. want to run your own kalprivate 24/7
Just simply download 'wine' or use ' apt-get ' to install it,
and simply run your .exe's :)

PS: dont forget to download some sort of key also, else it wont work, and u will be screwed;)

No thnx etc. needed, was bored, and liked to share some info...

hm lol ? what about MSSQL ?
wine runs almost all .exe's and supports a crapload of windows-compatible files,
also.., debian can run itself 99% so, im just sayin,
and bytheway,
the emulator of DeathArt runs with mysql >.<

What you mean with Sort of Key?

Some sort of key , ill ook it up...

First, open a terminal window. Then add the repository's key to your system's list of trusted APT keys by copy and pasting the following:
wget -q -O- | sudo apt-key add -

A repository's key ;)

For Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10):
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
For Ubuntu Feisty (7.04):
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
For Ubuntu Edgy (6.10): *64-bit packages not available*
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
For Ubuntu Dapper (6.06): *64-bit packages not available*
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
For Debian Etch (4.0):
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list

(Use these links for manual install.)

BytheWay, when u open a terminal (for example PuTTY) u don't really need to use sudo ;)

in terminal type

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install wine

Don't think wine would be as easy to install like that, if u haven't downloaded the repos. key and put wine in your sources.list.

Re: [Guide/Tip] Running Kal on Linux (ex. Debian)

Did you actually try this or do you only think it will work... ODBC etc. are required too???

There is an MSSQL for linux.

@Vaxieus
Yep Wine owns pretty much,
If your linux keeps complaining just put all programs which are equal to wine on it, that will guarantee 90% that your linux is able to run windows files,

PS: If you have ubuntu, you don't need this, coz ubuntu standard runs 99% thats why ubuntu came out :juggle:

Re: [Guide/Tip] Running Kal on Linux (ex. Debian)

simply use VMware

1st pro:
You won't have to scare the 10% from "90% working" to 100%.
(you dont need DX for the kal server)

I read that some guys wanna run more than 1 server on 1 machine.
so VMware has the 2nd pro...
... that you are able to add as many virtual WinServer2k3 machines as u like to.
Means you don't need to change any db names or whatever.

3rd pro:
backuping and moving the server from one machine to another can't be easier.

contra:
1.You will need a pretty good system in case that you run more than 2 VMs at the same time.

2.You need a lot of HD space coz you would have to install Win2k3 as often as you want to run servers .

regards

You can run multiple servers on 1 pc so only 1 VMware installation should be enough.
