Try using other fonts, and play with the size of the nav bar. The blue seems too dull, sometimes it works it, but in this case, it doesn't. You need to work on the hovers, they look too wide and weird. The stroke on the nav text looks really weird, too. You need to work on the borders and aligning the shapes accordingly, you can notice they don't " fit ". Lose the stripes and bring up the opacity to full on the flare and use burn/dodge tool to make it look more realistic.

Very nice start, however I don't like the borders and the navibar headers, me personally I would move the main content box down and add a nice design up there, and the hover in the navi bar almost a clear glass with kind of blue on both sides and simple looking text. I'd also add a little more something to the front page because it looks a little boring. Anyways nice job better than what most can do around here.
