It shouldn't be that hard, just time consuming. I just would like some feedback on what I have planned. After all, it's pointless to take the time to completely a project like this, if no one will like/play it.

If i understand this right, you are removing file protection, only to add it back again? why didn't you just reimplement it, instead of completely removing it then taking the laborous task of adding in a whole new system. All you had to do was change the keys, or use a different algo, that is it really, plain and simple. Also the "built-in data security" im assuming is for packet encryption, and to prevent hooks and whatnot, is pretty simple, atleast the changing of the packet crypto that is. Why not just use GG or Xtrap? they give you that anti-hack functionality you are looking for.

Well I am removing the MRS file protection for one reason, to speed up load times. I will have one encryped file that contains all the folders and files Gunz needs to access. So their is only one file that gets decrypted, not 50+.

As for built-in security, I will have to look into it more but since GameGuard is third party and has been out a while. It is safe to say that a lot of people can bypass GG. I would rather create my own protection that no one has exploits for or any information for that matter, yet at least. I may use some of GG's techniques but in a different package.

Oh so, when I want to do a zitem update, my players will download a 200 mb file?

No, think outside the box, if there is a built in launcher, the file can be decompressed, parsed, updated and recompressed. It's only being done that way for much faster load times.

I just have a few things to say, I may be out of line, but meh, I have never really cared much about the "that" line anywho.

1. Anyone can say 100%, 20%, 0%, 9001%, this is a development thread, so I would expect to see at least a minute hair of proof that you are doing anything at all. Simply put, I don't keep track of the devs separate accounts, but looking at your previous threads, you have nothing *really* to prove you are an extraordinary dev (and honestly, if you were to do everything on that list, you would have to be extraordinary to say the least). Even developers known for there work (insert well known dev here) post a screenshot/ snidbit of code to show they aren't bullsh*tting us all.

2. We are talking about the same Gunz right? Not Gunz 2, Gunz 3, or 4 right? You are dealing with a game running on an engine developed in 2005 (? correct me if I am wrong) which was what, 7 years ago? Honestly, I just don't see the point. Something that will take easily 100-130 hours of work (~$1000 worth of labor) should be something admired and downright useful. I know, I'm a pessimist, but Gunz isn't at its height anymore, far from it. If you really are deciding to put so much time into a project, I suggest placing it elsewhere.

3. The way you make it sound, nothing in Gunz is worth sh*t at all. I alone have been criticized by other developers for taking away from the Gunz "feel" just for editing the interface, what would happen when edits as large as what you speak of are applied? *I* almost feel Gunz with this much change would be to much for me to enjoy it. Maiet made a game different from any other, and that is why it was partially successful. Let's just put it this way, many a time I have heard others say "I really doubt Gunz 2 will make it far, just because it lost the originality Gunz the Duel had," and that is Maiet doing the edits, the same people who developed the original game.

Take the two cents I have given or not, I rarely care much at all what reputation I receive online, I just try to be as honest as I can.

tl;dr
I have a story to tell
1. Provide proof
2. Is it really worth it?
3. I think you are taking away from the game
Good day sir, hope you have a nice day

Well thank you very much for your feedback, it's greatly appreciated. I am doing this as a side project to pass some time. I can provide proof to you if you would like but like you said what's the point. If you don't like the project that's completely ok. I just don't have the resources to build a game like GunZ from scratch. Anyway, let me take some screen shots of code so you can see that their is development being done; Unless you can tell me of another way I can provide proof to you.

Thank you very much for reading my post as a concerned person and not a troll trying to start a flame war.

/waits with anticipation for the screenies

No problem. I took screen shots of code snippets and my file structure, that's really the only way to prove anything other than you actually using the file.

As for proving I have all third party antihack systems removed, I really don't know how to prove that. I guess I could tell you just remove the preprocessor definition "_GAMEGUARD"...

I also noticed you have been doing some excellent work the with the UI. Maybe we can colaborate? :)

You will a beast if you can get the DLL's sources and then put it into the runnable and only a runnable in the client folder

I shall try. I think it should be easy. I would just compile the runnable with a static library instead of dynamically linked library?

I will release it as a system, not including source. It will be a private gunz server done right, or at least that is the plan.
If people think that this project will fail, then more than likely it will fail but if you like the project, don't let it fail. I can always use ideas, tips, best practices anything to aid me in completing this project. If not completed, I will release the source in a "as is" state, so can you do whatever you want with it.
