[All] Where did you learn about coding?

Re: Where did you learn about coding?

Lets see

PHP: From PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
SQL: My mom taught me SQL :)
Java: Education + Books
C#: MSDN
XML: The internet (randomly)

all the other languages which I've forgotten is pretty much random, mostly from books or websites.

As soon as you get decent to 1 (real) language, learning more is very easy :)

I wish my mom knows stuff. Well, she knew C before, but she forgot now.

Also, I suggest that people start out with Game Maker. It combines multiple languages into one, and it's a very friendly language. Start out with it, when you feel you're ready, you can learn actual languages easier. I know PHP very well because it has almost exact same coding system as GM. I know basic Delphi because of GM too, etc.

I recommend learning a scripting language like PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor first.

PHP: PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor
C# : MSDN
C/C++ : Books

SQL : Usually learned with one of the above. Especially PHP.

IMO VB, and Delphi are two completely worthless languages that I won't even bother learning.

Also: Never, ever, learn VB as your first language. I also never see how people say its easier to understand than C/C++.

I learned C/C++ through books and trial and error... Just test stuff out and you will get the hang of it, but use a book too... Can't just start coding without knowing what to write.

PHP first... Hmm good idea... =\
I did Java and JS first tho >.<

How come Delphi is worthless and C# is not ahahahha

Pointless... Why do you need to know more than one programming language? If you are professional in one language you can create whatever you want.
Because the more languages you know the better. That's like saying if you are pro in English you don't need to learn anything else. You don't HAVE to be multilingual with speech and coding but it sure is better for you to be.

Also, being pro in only VB will get you just about no where. :P

Me

Delphi from a website, tut of Zarco Garig
ASM from the GS of MuOnline
C++ reversing the GS of MuOnline

i only once get a book of C++ and i didn't understand nothing coz it begins with avanced stuff, the thing is effort, at the beginning it is hard, but with the time you will note that you are able to code many thing

VB trial and error , then sources on google.
c++ Google.

bullseye, even tho i bought a book for begginers, but i just can't learn that way, best option for me is way of trys and fails.

Delphi was useless when I worked in it last time, that be around 10 years ago, and using delphi 5 I think it was :p

Learning VB is pointless, the language does not scale, and is usefull in any way. And you'll only learn bad pratice coding it.

Learn a scripting language first (php, python, ruby), to get the basic understanding, and then learn a real modern language, such as C++ , Java or C#
I can futhermore recomend learning a lowlevel language, such as ASM , and functional languages such as Lisp. All in all provides a good understanding of programming.

If you wish to work with databases, learning SQL (which IS a huge language, stop beliving it's not!) is a requirement. And for the sake of god, learn it in MySQL, not T-SQL or Postgre-SQL, they'll just tear up your mind.
And stay away from Access! :p
