for me I LOVE .asp!!!

i know these are a bunch of php freaks on this site.

i understand it isnt free...

but it has constant development from microsoft.

i code my school site.

www.southhillshigh.com

we are unveiling a new look soon.

everything is jacked up on this version right now cause im redoing stuff for the new site so i just throw up a new main.asp and main.css

then im gonna photoshop in that aqua look and div tag everything and align it how i want.

anyways.

i love asp for its feel.

its more user friendly to me.

and its got direct support from microsoft.

and im just well more used to it.

i dont get the whole php echo thing.

well, asp got support from microsoft, and php from the rest of the world ;)
I am for PHP, because it's more widely used and when building a site you definitely know you have a bigger choice of hosts with php than running on Win - well linux is best for hosting... Looking for language usage and system support stats should show that..

Also the syntax is very C-like, so knowing one language definitely guarantees knowing basics for the other.

But I am not against asp. It's also powerful lang and it has its use. Never programmed it and am not keen on learning it. For me it's no use just because of hosting, support from the net, etc. are important to me.

Yah since it's just gonna be a school site or something simple go with php
Just because if anything goes wrong you could ask just about anyone for help and they can fix it up for you, which isn't the case for asp.

If it was something huge and you were gonna have tons of people buyings items and the webscripts ran with programs then definetly asp.

Both have their merrits really. ASP is no doubt easy to work with and especially good working in combination with IIS and activeX / .net components. On the other hand, PHP has a large userbase and one of the best manals I've seen so far, and the advantage that the syntax is very similar to other languages.

For now I'd have to go with PHP, but thats merely because I've learned how to work with that. Had I started with ASP I might've chosen it instead.. :)

Aye, PHP manual is one of the best, if not the best i have read. Easy to use, to the point and dosnt try and confuse you if your some one just starting with the language.

Due to the fact i know PHP and not ASP, im going to pick PHP. Although, the one downside i do see of ASP is in order to get it to work on a unix / linux box i would have to have the hosting admin ( or me if i owned the server ) install a plugin or something for ASP ( From what i understand anyway ). Which if it were me who owned the box i wouldnt mind installing, but idk how offten a host would actually do that and i dont own a box atm.

same here :P I've learned php and so i prefer to code with it, but asp isnt that bad. If i find time to sit and work with it, i might prefer .asp

ASP itself has less functions then PHP does, but when ASP.NET is used ASP can do so much more.

well anyways i started out in java.

and then moved on to css.

then i got into asp.

and im trying to master css right now.

div tags = yay!!!

well thanks for the input.

i am just so used to asp.

ill look into php.

but at the same time...

i have that basics of asp down already.

just gotta expand on that.

Really? .asp is more popular with koreans? Interesting, I am a php fan myself but I don't really know much asp so :P
