Hey guys.

I was just wondering what is the best web hosting company to have a domain with, as I'm going to open a Website for a College project and also for personal use.
Even, if you name of the web host's you guys use, as it would be a really good help.

Thanks'
YeImANutter

PS: Sorry if this is the wrong section.

I'm currently using alfahosts.net which are pretty awesome, I've been with them for around a year now and haven't got anything bad to say about them, I was previously with Multitude3 and it was problem after problem after problem with them. That one website looks really cool :P:

Use justhost.com , they provide the best service for me so far, i don't have any problems with it. Besides they also include 1 domain for life in the package. It's good and cheap and if you wanna get discount use this coupon "50OFF" and you can get 50% off.

I use GoDaddy and the only gripe have is that they block some ports on non-dedicated servers.

I've also used DreamHost and would recommend it...probably moreso than GoDaddy.

It depends on what you need. If you just want a website with no special needs, any webhost that supports whatever language you want to use will work (if you want PHP, they should support PHP, for example). Just google webhost reviews etc to see who's shady and who's not.

There are plenty of good web host in the market today. Here are some of the Best Web Host:
1. Hostgator
2. justhost.com
3. hostmonster
4. iPage
5. bluehost
6. FatCow
7. IXWebHosting
8. WebHosting Pad
9. myhosting
10. Hosting.com.ru

HostGator for hosting, 1and1.com for the domain.

NEVER buy your domain with your hosting, and never take those "free domain with.." deals, as the host OWNs can (and usually) puts in the terms that, since you don't own your domain name, if you want to leave and use another host they won't let you.

1and1.com charges great prices for domain names- they usually have deals, and they let you transfer anywhere as many times as you like free (so long as you get the traditional Terms Of Service which I abide by).

So any host/domain is fine as long is it supports what you need.. Stay away from those weird free hosts and ****.. they try to rip you off because the free users eat up all their resources and they need to make money off you.

So don't fall for the bull **** most ppl on this thread fell for without knowing any better.

Buy Host and Domain Name separate - make sure domain transfers are free on both sides (just in case.. the host might bang on your site for not using their special "free domain name" option they try to scam you with.

Yeah.. I've heard some fucked up things having to do with the"host" owning the domain name.. so be careful with that. If you mess up- say a spam bot puts porn up or something and the host bans you, they still got your domain name for a year and a half.. and if it's a good name, they might renew it and make a site. (always have at least a year left before your domain name expires. ALWAYS. When your domain is getting close to expire (say, 3-6 months left), Google starts to penalize your site's ranking because of their "longevity" equation", or something.. Idk why, exactly, I mean- it's google's proprietary search engine- but, I know it does penalize you.

So yeh.. Start with the 2 year domain plan (it's like, 10-15 bucks at 1and1.com), and yeh.. 1and1 loves selling domains to you- even without hosting, because domains have like.. no support needed, so they make it cheap.

HostGator, has the most reliable hosting I've ever had. I've literally, NEVER had a problem or reported down-time.

So, they're at the top of many lists for a reason, HostGator is the only reliable hosting with good support I've ever found. So yeh..

I Highly recommend the procedures I've been using for 3 or 4 years. (Domain: Domain Names & Web Hosting : 1&1 Internet Inc., Host: Web Hosting Services, Reseller Hosting, and Dedicated Servers by HostGator

I'm actually surprised nobody above figured out what I figured years ago.. lol.. I mean, it's such a good procedure.. 1and1 for domains, hostgator for hosting.. their both #1 for what I use them for.. and almost every real web manager knows to keep domain names and hosting separate..

For me 1and1.com has cheap prices but they don't have such a good customer support..

GoDaddy for registering domains.

Hostmonster or HostGator for web hosting should do.
Well, like I said, domain names don't really need customer support ;)

1and1 and I had our differences in the past- let's just say they don't do my hosting anymore ;).

Never really needed support for a domain, though.

For domains, you can get them anywhere- look for cheap prices with good terms. Haven't looked into GoDaddy- but their popular, so they probably have cheap prices- but watch for terms.

Hosting is the important one.. You gotta have good support and reliable hosting

I use OVH, Hosting and Internet Solutions - OVH. I dont have nothing bad to say about it either do i have anything good to say about it. A while back they where offering free .co.uk domains what got me to sign up, So when i came to buying a domain i went with whatever i was already using.

edit:
By free i do mean free, 100% free As many as you wanted but there was a limit to only one domain per day.

I would strongly recommend s-p-n's method. I've only had a top level domain for a year, then it got cut off for personal reasons, but I hosted it with 1and1. If you actually need support for a DOMAIN, come on... I remember when I used bluehost to host my mini forum, I used their free domain, and after I left them because of their slow service/speed, I never got the domain back. After I get enough funds, I'm probably going to buy my domain, and then host with HostGator.
