C++ is the best :P.

And yes, MinGW is a good compiler for windows. A good IDE is Codeblocks at www.codeblocks.com

vipsarnius: DevC++ is an IDE, not a compiler (although it has one build in, I guess ^^).

In his case he meens an IDE i guess, as he told he is a starter/beginner.
Guess dev-cpp/DevC++ is the best to start with, not much bothering with settings and many options but just pure coding.

After you've gained some experiance you should look any futher to the options you've got left and offcourse what o.s. you want to program for and IN.

For common windows programming Visual C++ seems be a good one with many tools wiche makes your work easyer and offcourse a few excellent debugging tools.

But devcpp is also a good one to continue with,
lots of open source library's to download through the updater to explore.

I use devcpp for the small tools and easy applications.
Visual c++ if it starts to become more complicated and ' large ' (debug tools & good class viewer (instead of the simple one in devcpp) )

Wow those are some whack responses. Trying Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition or Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2. Both are free and MUCH better IDEs than anything posted. All of those compilers listed predate the C++ standard.

'Visual [some random words here]' IS mentioned.

Almost everything above is free...
And why would it be "MUCH" better?

Predated C++ standards??? Explain please...
