Deleting applications from an iPod Touch 3G

Hey guys,
I'm trying to delete an application from my iPod touch.

For some reason, it won't display the cross in the top left of the icon for me to remove the application.

Does anyone know how I can force it to be removed?

I should add that it is not an Apple application that I'm trying to remove

Indeed my device is jail broken.
I shall try out the funbox application now; thanks for the replies
