Probably seems like a weird thread with nothing on offer. But the real purpose is to try and get a real discussion going, because I've noticed a bit of a problem. I've been wanting to do research with the various source code I've been able (and not able) to find here, and I've noticed that it's way harder than it should be. Hell, I don't even have a good way of actually knowing what is out there, which is why I came here to ask anybody who might know.

So obviously there are sources like this that seem... rather incomplete. Asking AI wasn't much help either as it just sort of hallucinates whatever reality it wants to believe. And browsing around here? You can't genuinely tell what's a real leak vs an emulator vs reverse engineered, etc.

There aren't a ton of games that had their full source code leaked. The only games that do were generally dubbed as failures and their owning companies shut down. So that kind of speaks to the quality of the games and source for anything beyond nostalgia.

If you are wanting to learn how MMORPG networking and etc works, a well documented and structured emulator like WoW TrinityCore is a great starting point. If you want to learn about the client side, there is overwhelming learning material on the internet.

If you just want to mess with source for a specific game, you're going to be hard pressed to find much other than an emulator or RE solution.
