Emerging Web Technologies

[Jordan]

So i'm looking at learning something new over the summer months, i'm currently considering learning a new 'Web Language' or a framework does anybody have any suggestions. Don't suggest Rails or anything PHP based i'm looking for something new, any opinions on Django or Play 2.0 (scala/java)?

Play2 is really nice & easy to use, if you're familiar with Java you'll get used to it straightaway. Spark (sinatra like java framework) is pretty nice as well (express is too)
(I wrote something quickly why I like Play! - linked in my sig)

Get familiar with node.js. You won't regret it .

My one issue with node was the amount of callbacks, is there a decent MVC framework for it now been a while since I looked into it

Last I talked with Timebomb, he was working on a MVC Framework for node. So you can wait around for that. Or you could try Railway, which is an MVC framework based on express.js.

I shall take a look!

What I'm working on is not MVC, and I wouldn't waste time waiting around for it. There are plenty of other fine NodeJS frameworks that you can use.

MVC:
Tower.js - Full Stack Web Framework for Node.js and the Browser
Derby

Non-MVC:
Flatiron, A framework for Node.js
SocketStream - a fast, modular Node.js web framework dedicated to building realtime single-page apps
Meteor
