Ok - so there is no data as to WHY the service failed to start. Note that if you are running xampp or appserv there is already a copy of MySQL running as a service. (Can't bind to the same port, 3306, twice)

To see the details of WHY it failed, go Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer. In Event View, applications will log details of important events and errors. For this error the source will be MySQL, MsInstaller, or Services. Anyways, that log will give us a clue as to why the service failed to start (or started and stopped).
