Microsoft SQl Server 2005...help

I'm trying to create a private server for my friends. Problem is, I don't know where to download Microsoft SQl Server 2005. Where to get a free version of it or does anyone have a link to the .exe file? I downloaded the Express version of it but it won't let me connect to a newly created server.
